Do you need a clutch puller to remove the primary clutch on a 1997 VMax? If so, can I use a regular gear puller or is it a special type of puller? Can you describe to me what it looks like and how it works?
Thanks.

Do Not Use A Gear Puller You Will Damage The Clutch Sheaves! Unfortunately You Need The Puller In The Picture Above.

Like the other guys say, do not use a gear puller.
Removing a primary can be hard enough even with the correct puller.
So, get a puller like that!. Let me know if you get in trouble.. .

Thanks for the info on the puller. At the end of last season it wasn't downshifting until I would come almost to a complete stop so it's probably a good time to go through both clutches. What parts should I expect to replace? The sled has 4000 miles on it and I don't think its had any clutch work done before.

check your secondary on the one - visually make sure the clutch is working right.
