Need info on heel clickers

Have been reading lots of stuff on the heel clicker weights but I can not find any info to understand the numbering system used for the weights. When they call them a 40-10y does this mean that the main body of the weight is 40 grams and the heel weight is 10 grams? then what does the "y" indicate, just the version of that wieght ? Any info on this would be helpfull.

"y= yamaha" DUH why didn't I think of that! Thanks Turk. So if you wanted a softer engagement (mountain riding) would you want a lighter heel or does it make much different, I know you can change the weights but as a starting point.

Engagement

You want MORE heel weight to lower the engagement. I suppose you could also try another primary spring (like grey) but many people will tell you that the weights work best with the red spring. This is ONLY MY OPINION but I think there are better weights out there for mountain riding than Heel Clickers. I feel that the HC's are best for aggressive trail and especially drag race applications. Have you asked around the site for suggestions on a clutch set-up for the type of riding you do? My viper is all stock motor wise but I could give you a set-up I like for deep snow riding if you are interested. It is with Yamaha weights and springs.

Thanks Madmatt, I did pm mrviper700 but he has not replied yet. I just bought an 03 mountain viper with a hauck 780 BB, hauck/simmion pipes, v-force 3 reeds, team secondary and nitrous. The problem is the primary clutch has bolts in it for weights, so I am trying to find a starting point to get it dailed in. Thought the heel clickers would make it easier but if they are an aggressive weight that not what I want any info right now would help.

What's wrong with using bolts for weight in the clutch arms? Let me know how you make out with that 780 viper on the nitrous. I always wanted to try it but it's tough enough to keep them together without spray!!! Since I now know it is a 780 I might be able to look in my notes and give you a set up or two. Here's a picture of my 780 viper that I have since sold.

Madmatt, the concern I have with the bolts is they are half ground down so how do you ensure they are all weighted the same and not cause an imbalance and vibration. If I can get some info on your set up that would be great. So far I have found it had 18cc dome head which according to hauck should never be used in 780 bb, do you know what cc you combustion chambers were?

you use a gram scale to check the weight of them. using bolts and nuts is something I do all the time, I simply tap the weights. Others claim you cant do it but I have a box full of them, you have to go slow and lube up the tap. Matts seen them here before. There is no wrong way to add weight, its just personal preferance, rivets, bolts,whatever works for you. I do agree with matt,that heel clickers might not be the best weight for deep snow mtn riding, they might tend to trench from coming in too quickly, I am no mtn rider so youll need to ask around. Check with Turk on a good weight profile if your unhappy with what you have now.
