I Have a 2001 Yamaha SRX w/ about 4,000 miles on it. When you first start the sled everything is fine but after you ride for a bit and then stop the sled letting it idle there is a screeching noise coming from the clutch area. My only guess is the secondary is out of alignment and putting a bit of side pressure on the belt as the primary spins. Am I on the right track? Any thing else to check? Suggestions on where to buy an aligment bar?

Your center to center is probably too tight. You can make the squeel go away by removing the three washers from the bolts on the back of the secondary which will allow the belt to drop lower in the secondary sheeve. I'd check the center to center first though. Allen on this site had some reasonably priced c to c tools, but I don't know if they came in stock yet. His name on here is SRXSPEC.
Actualy I just saw a post that he has them in stock. Look under preferred vendors - Ulmer Racing.

snowdust is right on, either CC is off some or you need to pull the three bolts out and adjust the shims on the back of the secondary.

i think your not running a yamaha belt ??? happen often with aftermarket belts
Thanks guys, I will buy the C to C tool.
mod, it is a Yamaha belt, that was the first thing I changed when the noise started.

you need to adjust them 3 bolts, that is your problem, no need to mess with the centre to centre.

Right, try your 3 bolts first.....
I am new to messing with the clutch. By adjusting those 3 bolts do you mean making them tighter or looser? Do I need to add or remove shims?

see how many washers(shims) you have in there, start by removing the thinest one..or just one..

I have no washers on my bolts, but my belt is still too tight. It will almost stall the motor when I hit the brake, and it creeps ahead while idling. Do I need to check center to center?

How do I check center to center? I can't do it accurately with a tape measure because of the offset. Can I get a cheap tool somewhere quick?

are you sure you got the right belt???? try to stick with OEM

I have the same problem since I put a new OEM yamaha belt on, But I found that the bolts are missing on my secondary.....( never looked for them before the squeel started) anyway i ordered bolts, but I dont think that will fix it, How do you adjust CC?? I think I can borrow a tool but what is involved setting it back to spec??

make sure you are using a 8dn yamaha belt. Your putting serious strain on crank bearings if you drive it like that.

LIFE MEMBER ONLY ONCE!!!
C TO C TOOL IS EASY TO USE,BUT BEFORE THAT YOU'LL HAVE TO REMOVE YOUR CARBS TO EXPOSE REAR ENGINE HOLD DOWN BOLTS AND LOOSEN THEM PLUS LOOSEN THE FRONT ENGINE HOLD DOWN BOLTS.AND THEN LOOSEN THE TORQUE LIMITER BOLTS.tHIS WAY YOU CAN WIGGLE THE MOTOR AROUND TO GET THE C TO C RIGHT AND THE OFF-SET.gOOD TOOL COSTS A FEW BUCKS $150 TO $200,BUT YOU HAVE IT FOR LIFE.
Yep have a 8DN belt..
I will try the bolts without the washers first... Not able to ride right now anyway, So parts will be here in time..
Thanks guys.

You can check center to center with a tape. Center of crank to center of jackshaft no tool neccesary. A millimeter tape would be nice but can be done with standard tape.267-270mm or 10.52-10.62in. Most will run on the short side of the specs.

I would also pull the bolts out and check the ends. They wear down/mushroom really bad over time, could also cause the sheaves to be closer together.
