You can check the C to C with a flat ruler (like in a combo square) and a nail. Hold the nail on the end of the ruler, put the point in the indent in the secondary hole, and then check the measurement at the primary bolt center.

I personally like the AdvantEdge tool or the SledPro tool myself, but the other styles work good too, they just take more time.
