1997 Vmax chain case question

I'm in the final stages of completing a track replacement on my Vmax. However during the assembly of the chain case (w/ reverse)I find that if I over tighten the bolt holding gear hub (track drive shaft) everthing locks up. If I back off the bolt torque slightly everything moves freely. I've checked my schematic and confirmed that all washers and shims acounted for and in the correct location. I'm not sure if this is normal. Should I simply loctite the bolt using a lighter torque
 
Is your bottom sprocket on in the right way? There is a collar taht goes towards the backside. If it is reversed then the sprocket binds with the chaincase and nothing moves...only reason I know is because that happened to me too.

make sure the the correct spacer is on the shaft, and that you did not flip the bottom gear over, It should spin freely with the correct torque.
 
Check the spacer behind the lower gear. The small side goes towards the bearing and the large side towards the gear. A lesson learned from experience.
 
I should have mentioned that this sled has reverse. The lower gear is a 3pc assembly...2 gears and center "splined" shaft with a thrust washer. There is basically one spacer (alum with o-ring) which slips onto the shaft before the bearing and snap ring is placed into the housing. After that...two gears and center shaft the with washer.....There not much to it. As I see it, the gear set can only go on one way. There's a special washer and compression spring under the attachment bolt. My thought was maybe the that compression spring provides enough force to not allow the drive shaft rotate freely by hand. Although that doesn't make much sense. My only other option is to install the drive shaft without the track or chain in place to confirm free rotation then disassemble and then reinstall everything again.
