SXR front shocks

Everytime I turn around I have to run to the Yamaha dealer to get raped some more. I was taking off the trailing arms and radius rods tonight to get them ready fro paint . First off the stupid bolt was seized in the collor on the bottom shock bushing. This lead to taking the shock off with the trailing arm. I had to cut the bolt off and pound out the rest of the bushing. That was minor , maybe $20 for a bushing and bolt then when I was going to take the springs off the shocks I noticed oil was on the shock body and the shaft. Now it looks like I need shocks because these ones are not rebuildable and there is no way in hell that I am giving Yamaha $400 for a stupid shock that can't be rebuilt. Going to have to do some shopping on ebay tonight. Fricken wife is going to kill me if I don't get her sled put back together soon. Now I have to give her the bad news about the shocks. Might as well set the bed up in the garage before I tell her.

Any body have any front shocks to fit a 2002 SXR 600 at a cheap price. What years and models would fit.
 
I don't see any slot that a wrench would fit on to open them up. All there is on top of the shock is 3 tiny dimples and the edge is perfectly round. I know they are rechargeable.
 
If they are the stock shocks they should be KYB rebuildables. The top cap does not have any easy way to remove it, you need special tools.

DanQ just posted some Viper fronts forsale. They will bolt right on but may be a little stiffer depending on the year

If there off a SXR they can be rebilt and i would have that done for her anyway they can be valved to her riding style and weight. makes for a 100% better ride
 
They are rebuildable but not going to happen with the dealer here. For what they want for a rebuild I can buy a complete front and rear set off of e-bay. I went to get a rubber bushing for the bottom shock mount. They told me that the part is not replaceable, you have to buy a new shock. I pick another bushing from the picture and said lets try that. Rubber bushing with steel insert collar 1.5 mm bigger then the shock mounting hole makes it a tight press in fit.

Still in the market for some front shocks if anybody knows of any.
 
i have used for 100$ from a viper

your shocks are rebuidable, call pioneer, he can rebuild them. do the rears at the same time, he can set them to your wifes weight. rebuild the skid and the sled will be way better and your wife will share the love
 
if you live in saskatchewan chances are you have a canadian srx with the ohlins shocks. They should be rebuildable

It's a SXR

Bethviper The rear shocks in the skid are good the wife said she didn't find it rough and I wasn't on the softest setting on the FRA. It was set in the middle. The shocks I have have some pitting on the shafts clost to the top I don't know if they ever compress that far. What does Pioneer charge for rebuilding KYB shocks.
 
Oh Im havein a dyslexic day.

Just for a ball park my friend just had his front shocks rebuilt and recharged and they did it for $45 A shock. I was on a 2000 mxz. I assume it would be similar for anything else.

$45 for a rebuild and recharge. If that was my cost here I wouldn't bat a eye. They quoted me $150 per shock. I politely told them what I thought of that. I might buy bethvipers shocks or look for some that have some adjustment atleast. They tried to tell me that I had to buy a new shock because the bushing was not a part that you could buy. I got one from the top shock mount and put it in. Works just fine.

The dealer here thinks that you won't look else where. I've got news for him. I can support him but I can't pay for his pension plan in one visit.
 
I have an SXR and a guy local to me rebuilt all my shocks for about $40 each. Even with shipping, would be cheaper than new or used ones.
 
Well I am going to need some address's from you guys. Seems like you have more reasonable shops around your areas. All I have here is the Yamaha dealer $150 and the Harley shop I know they charge $100 to do a fox shock. So what I might do is get a spare set and when I send one set out for rebuild I still have a set to ride with.

Shop rate here is close to $80 per hour at the Yamaha dealer plus shop supplies and of course taxes. Basically kiss a $100 bill good buy every hour.
