I'm having difficulties starting my '01 SRX 700 when it's in the teens and below. I have a couple of strong friends that can pull the starter cord better than I can, and they get it to start within a few pulls. The carbs have been cleaned and adjusted and it runs 110%. Once it's started once in the morning, I have no problem after that. What's the secret for getting a strong pull or starting it easier?

Hit the gym man :) haha not sure what else to say than that. They are big engine with a lot of compression and a fairly small recoil so they take some tugging to get them going in the morning. Mine always took 5 or 6 pulls when it was cold out to get her fired up, then one pull the rest of the day.

right before you shut it off the night before give it some choke, this will put some extra fuel in the cylinders for the next mrning, make it a little easier to light off.

maybe frano is a girl yamaholic...........
Best way to start your sled is give it full choke, pull until it starts, then work the choke open close open close until it runs with the choke off. Open means not full maybe half. Also check and see if the choke is adjusted properly.
Free play is like 1/4 inch but not 100% on that.

I just tried Mrvipers trick last week and it is great!!! Idle her down in your parking spot and choke it for a few seconds....then kill it. When you 1st pull it use full choke but now pull 1-2 times with the kill switch on "kill" (puts gas into the cylinders) then go ahead and take the switch off and it'll fire up like "NOW"...works very well.

I'm sure if you had 2 torn discs in your low back you'd love to pull that da@@ thing over!!! Yea I know I probably shouldn't ride but hey ya only live once!!!!

I fell on my tail bone and could feel ever bone in my back snap. Took me a week to start walking. I still have lower back pain but for some reason when I ride the pain goes away, with a little help from a kidney belt.

I know they pull over a little slow when they are cold, But try pulling over a big bore twin when its cold!!

The SRX is a pain!!! Thing never wants to start well cold. This trick helps but in this area I will say I miss my 700 poo, it had a primer and a choke....plus the old guy that had it before me put electric start on it! Never needed that started 1st pull every time I mean that 1st pull. But when I get on the SRX and drive it is all worth it.

My brothers 01 xc 800 was hard to pull!!! When it was cold you would drag the sled backwards for about 10 feet before it would start. Damn that thing was hard to pull when it was warm!

Wouldn't the extra gas your putting on top of the pistons by choking before shut off evaporate by the next day?

I don't understand the kill switch trick. What's the difference if you pull 1-2 times with the kill switch on or off? If I'm going to pull I would rather take my chances of the sled starting. If it doesn't then you get more gas in the cylinder for the next pull anyway.

When it's in the teens and below, I've been putting a few ounces of fuel in two of the cylinders, pull a couple of times, and off she goes. Once started, it's one pull all day long. It may be a pain when cold, but once she's running, it's all worth the effort. What a ride!

My 99 was horrible to start in the cold! Went thru tons of plugs and swear words! Got a tip to install a primer and ever since its been a couple pumps of the primer and its running. Best fix ever!!!! I also used to put fuel in the cylinders to get 'er goin but the primer took care of that.
