seriously we need some pics and parts info on this I'd do it to both my srx and sxr. Primers on our old Polaris's worked well.

dude come on now that is a littlr extremefrano said:When it's in the teens and below, I've been putting a few ounces of fuel in two of the cylinders, pull a couple of times, and off she goes. Once started, it's one pull all day long. It may be a pain when cold, but once she's running, it's all worth the effort. What a ride!
pull you carbs back off and turn the fuel screws out 2 full turns from the bottom this will help it start !

not extreme at all.i've given mine 50 pulls in minus35 c and no start just to see. a few drops of gas in the cyl and first pull. thats with the choke adjusted to the max. a primer is the answer if you ride in extreme cold.marty f said:dude come on now that is a littlr extreme

In below 0 temps, my stock 02 srx takes as many as 30 or so pulls in the morning, lesser now since I full choke her when shutting down the night before.

My 99 took 5 pulls at -10* F, then 1st pull all day. Now, my friends 05 Renegade 800 PowerTek was a different story. My 99 idled while his 05 coughed and puked after 20+pulls. SKI-DONT!!!!! J/K, It's a nice sled, just started real hard!

From what I understand now, the choke before shut-off trick isn't to get some left over gas for next start. It is so the extra gas cleans the oil off the cylinders. No oil, less freeze-up for next start. Not sure if it is to good for the engine...

I never have problems starting the Viper in all kids of cold temps, but this year after I had drained the tank dry for storage, I probably pulled about 100 times and was way too tired to continue. I put gas down the cylinders about 4 or 5 times to finally get it going. Apparantly the fuel tank needs to be pressurized so fuel can get to the pump.
I like that primer bulb idea for after summer stoarage start up and I guess for those really cold starts.

for a primer install you need a plunger type primer kit ,usually comes with a T fitting for the fuel line from the tank ,a 4 way spliter 1 in 3 out or two regular T's ,thats 1/8'' spliter or t's ,3 press in or screw in 1/8'' hose barbs for the carbs and about 4' of 1/8'' fuel line. i made a bracket to mount the primer to the air box since there isn't much room to mount it outside and i like to have a look under the hood anyway before start up. sorry no pics don't know how. hope this helps. if you do this make sure the lines from the primer to the carbs are well routed and protected because if they get an air leak you will burn down.

why not do as marine tech did buy a inline primer from a marine store or wal-mart find the fuel line cut make sure the flow is correct (there is arrows on the primer) and push the hose on.

Where do you cut into...lines or do you tap holes into the carbs.....we need pics.....you could email me directly at twofishy4u@hotmail.com Anyone who has read all the cold start srx issues like I have would appreciate a primer set-up/install in the tech section. Thanks Guys.

srx's are easy to start in the cold. some times takes 10 pulls but they pull over easy compared to a twin in my opinion.

also you guys need to make sure your choke cable is adjusted properly so you get the full amount of fuel.

10 pulls is not easy no matter what sled you have. My carbs are clean and cables are adjusted fine. Think of all the wear and tear on the recoil assembly. This is the only sled I have ever owned that was normal to pull and pull when cold.......that includes a 1972 rupp....2 pulls all the time. I want a primer.
