Okay, I just picked up a 2001 700SXR (2,000 miles) and while I've only put on about 5 miles, I notice that it has a slight bog when I hammer the throttle from a dead stop. It idles fine and midrange throttle response seems good. I discovered when searching that it was a common problem with the 600/700 SX's and SXR's. Is it a fuel problem? It's bone stock with an aftermarket can on it. The previous owner told me he just cleaned the carbs, but I'll take them off and clean them to be sure the pilots are clean. If the pilots don't fix it, what are the ideal fuel settings for a 700sxr (how many turns out)? Thanks

A set of reed spacers or notching the reed cage should get rid of that problem. The reeds are too close to the intake ports the spacers gives a straighter flow to the engine. The notching does the same thing there is a write up on it in the tech section.

is this a common problem? Remember it's a stock sled...

got this from daman.....try going to half choke before cracking the throttle. If this corrects the low end bog then you are lean(idle circuit) and need to open up the fuel screw a touch
..just had to deal with this on my sleds......try turning the fuel screw out a little more. Should probably be somewhere between 1 7/8 and 2 out.

put reed spacer or notch the reed cage before you play with the fuel screws

Huh???
should not need to do that no,,try your screws first, then go from there..
On a totally stock 2001 700SXR with only 2,000 miles?????yamyrider said:put reed spacer or notch the reed cage before you play with the fuel screws

Thanks guys... I'll give the fuel adjustment a try first. It's sounding like this is the problem.

stock or not stock, 2000 miles or not the intake port is still blocked unless you notch it or use spacers. This will clear up the burble that all the machines have right from factory.
I have the same sled bone stock. I have the burble in the midrange when its above 20 F, but I do not have any bog anywhere. You should be able to get the bog out of it.

I agree with yamayrider a stock machine will not run correctly unless the reed spacers or reed cage is notched. No amount of tuning will get rid of that burble. It was the biggest difference that I made to mine when it was stock.

he said slight bog, not burble...

Ajviper, I have done about half a dozen of these machines in my area when guys tell me they have a bog and or burble.
We clean the carbs (always a good practice) install reed spacers and adjust fuel screws at 1.75 turns and they are happier then ever. You will notice a huge throttle responce difference with the reed mod. It is up to you but I have done both of mine and about 6 more using the same technique. You will also find hundreds of guys here that have done the same thing with great results.

ur all missing something here! The mid-range burble is best fixed by raising the clip on the needle a notch from stock position "three" to "two" from the top. This will lower the needle which controls fuel from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle and it gets rid of that MID-range bog or burble every time.
The reed spacers work even better with this done.

i saw the write-up on the notching, but what does a set of spacers cost? I only have the initial bog... midrange seems just fine, no blurp or bogging.

you can find the spacers for about $50.00 and make a real easy installation. All those machines have the blocked port. Trust me you will notice the difference right away.

Is this something that my viper would benefit from as well or is it a different animal due to the PowerValves?

Yes they are a totally different animal and as far as I know not required.
anyone have an extra set laying around that they'd be willing to sell?

Notch made no difference to mine.

Bogg more
What about if you have VForce reed system on it with carbon fiber reeds? Little lean if it is bogging a little on take off??
