I have a 97 700sx that the center plug is not turning color. I have cleaned the carbs and it starts fine and runs ok, but the plug is not brown. Have had this sled for 6 years and nothing is changed on it. Any ideas? Thanks Rich.
its staying white and dry or white and wet?
It is white and wet. Could it maybe be a headgasket? Thanks Rich.
I just went and rode it.The plugs were dry and still white. Put 8 miles on it. The pto side was showing a little color but not much. The above post was when the sled was in the garage idleing. Thanks Rich.

Are you running new plugs? does it seem to be firing on all 3 now?
Yes, they are new plugs but have 20 miles on them. It is running on all three cyl's. What would happen if it had a plugged carb vent? Thanks Rich.
Can anyone tell what the plastic ring around the main jet is for or what its purpose is?Thanks Rich.
It's to help keep fuel around the jet at all times when taking off and vibrations, etc...
I went back through the carbs and did not find anything wrong. Put it back together and installed br10es plugs and rode it. On the low end it starts to show some color on the plugs, but when you go out and start to trail ride it the plugs turn back to WHITE. I sprayed a little carb cleaner around the seals and carb boots, air box boots and noticed no change in rpm. Would a fuel pump or fuel filter problem cause this? Thanks Rich. Also it is all 3 plugs not just the center.

are the plugs wet and shiny or dry?
also when you look at the actual center elctrode, not the curved ground strap the center in the cone, is it silver across the whole bottom or what color?

sorry, didnt see you answered "wet", you must be drinking antifreeze then. Can you smell the sweet antifreeze in the exhaust?
smoking more then before?
if you run it on a stand does it leave a giant slick, greasespot on the floor?
take it for a quick spin and see what the elctrode center looks like and post results,

The center elect. does appear to have a silver/of white ring around it. The plugs are no longer wet after riding it and it does not have the sweet smell to the exhaust. Has very little smoke when idling. the sled responds well and seems to run ok. It has about 50 miles on it now since the problem started. Not hard riding though. Thanks Rich.
would there be any way you could go out and ride it for a while and then take a pic of the plugs and post?
whats it look like on top of the pistons, if you have the sparkplug out, and shine a small light in there with piston about half way down the bore, is it all shiny and silver, new looking or something else?

I will try to post but never had any luck posting pics. The pistons do not look shiney and new. They are not black though either. I will go for a ride and then try to post. Thanks For the help. Rich.
Was not able to post on this site. I think i can send them to someone and maybe they could post. The pics are not very clear though. The pto piston looks to be clean of carbon yet the plug looks to be darker than the others. The mag piston is black on top. Thanks Rich.
you have checked the choke plungers and they seat all the way, you cant push them in any with a small penlight screwdriver right?

Put in a set of good used plugs. Take the sled for a spin but remember what color the used plugs were before you left. Let us know what you find. You might not have enough miles on the new plugs to color them in.
your running too cold of plug! br10es's are too cold .you are experiencing a cold white on your plugs!( not burning hot enough to get your color) put in a set of br9es's or br9eya's ,it should start to darken up!rich said:I went back through the carbs and did not find anything wrong. I will check the choke plungers tonite, never thought about that. I had br9es plugs in it to start with but they were worse. So i put in the br10es plugs to help keep it from burning down. I will email the pics i have to tomseal6 and he said that he would post for me. Thanks everyone, Rich.

A BR9ECS is the right plug for a SRX...if you burnt it wasn't the plug's fault.
