I don't have any other ideas for you, Viperdougc, but you are not alone in your quest for normal fuel milage. I too have been having the same problem with my 01 srx for four years now. It runs great and is fast or faster than most of them but gets only 10-12 mpg. I have tried just about everything this thred talks about, even tried different carb rack, but not the exhaust plugged theory. I thought the fuel pump change over helped at first, but apparently not. I have not thrown in the towel yet, but put it on the backburner for now as I gave in and bought an apex, just can't part with the old tripple. I will keep trying and let you if I have any answers.

Fuel consumption
I put the brand new stock silencer back on my srx after years of running a hauck triple silencer. My mileage went from 14/15 down to 11/12. After a long ride I get a puddle of fuel/oil mixture on the garage floor from the air box.
That never happened until I went back to the stock can.
HMMMMMMMMMM?????

thanks again for the replies guys.....

Take a look at the first part of the thread and you will see a list of the things that have been done. And thank you for the suggestion but I have been switching out parts with other vipers. Since my first post here is what has been done.
Actual Milage Dave: 85-90 miles absolute maximum to the tank (snowsnake I don't even make 100) (sled runs strong and pulls hard to 106 mph GPS or 119 on the dreameter).....all cylinders spit plenty but mostley when I first hit the throttle and then it really evens out.... I believe that this symptom suggests a blockage somewhere even more.........again this info was stated at the beginning of the post.
Recent changes:
Fuel pump
reed cages and stoppers
different can.
Things left to do
try changing out muffler
re-check power valves
I have been inquiring about how to check the timing anyone want to help out there....I thought the CDI was the only way to do this.
I would like to switch out the carb rack but haven't had any volunteers from around here yet....except of course from theblues who I hope to hook up with again soon.
I still think it is a blockage somewhere but haven't found it yet.

Hey Blues,
I haven't gotten back to you cause I am in the gym business and its been a real busy new year. I don't know if I can look at my sled until things calm down.

The Answer
Finally the answer.........3 and a half long years and I have cracked my fuel consumption problem..... now I am thinking why the heck didn't I do this from the start.
I picked up a carb rack from my buddy viperken. It was off a piped viper so I had to use the pilot and main jets out of my old carb. Intially things didn't change (first 50km) but after that I started to notice a gradual improvement. Until last night when I got 14 mpg on some absolutely stunning trail in the Pontiac.
Absolute worst gas milage I am seeing now is about 12mpg when I am really hitting the throttle on a rail line and as good as 14mpg for trail riding. I just can't believe that all it was was the carb rack....not the jets. I guess the carb rack was built on a Friday by Mukuni or something but right now I couldn't care less I'm not getting 9mpg any more!!!!

Did you have to change the needles & needle jets also ? Iwould have compaired first because I dont think just the bodies would give you the problem.
