97 Vmax 700 Sx Moving By Itself

a buddy of mines 97 vmax moves by itself....its got a new belt and its the right one....and for some reason it engages at low rpms......and it idles around 500 rpm....someone can you help me with this problem?

You need to adjust the belt deflection. There are shims/washers under the 3 screws on the rear of the secondary to do this (you have to take it off). The thicker they are the "tighter" the belt gets. So you need to check them. They make .5mm and 1mm. If you have the 1mm in there it will be tighter than with the .5mm ones.

Really i don't care if it moves by its self, but is this gonna cause damage to my snowmobile in any way??

well, you will likely wear the belt out early if you do not correct this.

Also, idling at 500 rpm, you will probably foul plugs.
