i have a 94 vmax 600 i got from my brother he had gyt pipes on it and jetted it and clutched it few years ago but now its bogging off the line if i keep the gas out it will build up speed and take off i cleaned the carbs somone said it might be the clutch does anybody know what size main pilot and what airscrew mixture i should go with for the setup somone said its was the hot set up for that year i just dont know what jets to use :winterrul
 
yes it still has the gyt pipes on it plus not sure do i have to move the needle clip up or down
 
Need to find somone that's running these pipes that could give ya a starting
point for jetting,or find the specs from the manufacture of the pipes.

you need a starting point,,i have no idea i run stock sleds..
 
I'm running GYTR twin pipes on my 95.. Sweet setup. I posted a thread on here a while back that had the specifics. Let me see if I can find it.

cool thank you for the post i have to pull the carbs and see what jets i have in but i have never messed with the needle clip position dont know how to do that lol
 
hey fleet man are you running them jets in your what it says to and what clip position are yyou in do you have a web site for that
 
I read alot of posts here and elsewhere along with alot of information gathering and the concensus was to run Q-8 nozzles with a 156.3 main jet. I have alot of info spread out all over this PC of mine. If ya want I can gather it up and shoot ya a zip file if you want..... I kinda need to organize it anyway. I basically changed the nozzles from Q-6 to Q-8 and the sled had 156.3's in it already. Then I changed the secondary spring to a silver iirc at 40 degree wrap.

I basically took some points from Mr Sleds suggestion and setup the carbs like he said but run different springs and weights. I am going to try his setup with the springs and weights he suggested this year and see if it makes any difference for better or worse. I'm a lite weight, 160 soaking wet @ about 800 - 1,000 feet alt and the setup I have works awesome. When I had the original skid under it it just spun the track. Now with the Xtra-10 and pickers I can pull the skis off the snow. Hooks up great. I need to do some more suspension tuning as there isn't even a tank of gas through it yet this year.

so fleet man is the nozzel hard to change. so i go bigger number on the main jet lager number with the pips sorry for all the question
 
the nozzles are easy to change once the carbs are off. Although I do have some concerns as you say this was already piped and jetted for some time and now there is a problem. It seems to me if there was a carb issue it would have been there all along. I would be looking at the clutches if all of the sudden there is an issue that wasn't there before. Also, the carbs may just need a good cleaning. That would be the time to check and see what is in them as for jets, nozzles and such.
 
i kinda was thinking the same it was clutched years ago dont know much about the clutches but i think its just worn out do you recommend ruibling the stock or getting same cluthc just change out springs or what not or going for aftermarket one
 
If it were me, I would check that primary before doing anything else. There maybe something like a bushing shot and binding in there, a bunged spring or rollers shot. These 600 twins are notorious for eating up primary clutches. If all looks, feels and specs out then the secondary would need a good lookee see. If thats ok then I would take a peek in the carbs. It wouldn't hurt to look in them anyway as with todays fuel if you don't treat the fuel before (and even if you do) storage the carbs are probably gummed up to a certain extent. They are real easy to take off once the airbox is removed.

EDIT: Another thing just crossed my mind, are you the same body type as your brother? I mean is there a weight difference? If it was setup for a light fella and then gets sold to a heavier dude the clutching may not be optimum for the new owner. just a thought.

no i am about the same body weight as him and to no i totoally forget to mention last year i was looking into it somone told me to get a heavieer spring for primary so i did and this year i took just the cover off and the spring was broke so i put the one on the i got the heavier one and still the same so maybe bushings or rollers are just worn but i heard its a pain to get the clutches off
 
Ahhh... so this is an ongoing symptom right? What was the color of the spring that was removed/broken? Also what did you install?
 
hello i had a yellow purple yellow in there that was broken and last year i got a diff one and they said iit was lil stiffer its a silver one now in there
 
so fleet man what color spring you think i shoul dhave in there somone guy had oem clutch with bender spring and clutch kit in it for 250 that a good deal
 
Im running a stock helix with the silver spring wrapped @ 40 degrees. That works very well for me. I'm not real sure it's stock though as a 8BV10 helix doesn't come up anywhere. That combination seems to work for me but YMMV

I still have stock gearing also. the only thing that I noticed is cruising at 50 - 60 mph and tach between 5 & 6 k it seems to be a bit hesitant until it gets above 6 or below 5. I may have something going south in the clutch setup. I also have yet to hold it WFO for a long time to get to top speed. I know the belt in the Primary is about a half inch from the edge of the sheave as the marks are still there.

As of this week I got my order in for the parts I don't have to set her up according to Mr Sled's recommendation. Thats where I'm going to continure this year.

BTW, I'm no guru here. I'm actually still learning and trying to understand what happens when "A" is done and how it effects the overall setup. Turk and/or Mr sled, among others, have way more knowledge than I on these.

Another thing I need to add is that after I changed the skid this year got it setup to tranfer properly that is when this hesitation appeared. I don't recall it being there last year with the stock skid in there.

wondering if any body knew or know somone i can call or find spec for the gyt pipe set up for the vmax 600 on what thy say to run clutch and jet setttings thank you
