Helping my buddy change out his track, and his forward mounting bolts for the skid are being a pain.
Cant seem to stop the shaft from spinning inside the w-arm. I have re-tightened each side, hoping to break the other side loose, but always seems to end up with 1 bolt causing the shaft to spin....
Anybody have any tricks to stop that shaft from turning inside w-arm?

Impact gun
The shaft will still spin but not as fast as the bolt!

yeah, thats the problem...that POS polaris doesn't allow the impact to hit the bolt straight...they have weird set-up on his dam polaris....Im ready to light a match and run, then I can have my workshop back....
I have to run an extension through an openening on the side, but the way the metal is bent, doesn't allow straight shot to the bolt, and I dont want to round the dam thing off...
How thick is the steel in those w-arms. I was considerring drilling a small hold through the metal, and putting a spot weld to the shaft, then Id just fill the hole after, once the skid is out...
Grrrrr, goddam polaris P.O.S

the only way you will be able to get it is with an impact. i had the same problem. can you put a swivel on the end of you impact? make sure you have i threaded a little before using an impact because the last thing you want to do is strip that inner thread
Swival socket might work.
have somone sit on the sled so there is weight/tension on the shaft the bolts should loosen enough to get them out...CP

well, ended up purchasing a 12" extension bar, and the bolts came out.
New track is in, and skid bolts are installed...tomorrow have to re-install chaincase, idlers, pipes, hood...hard part is done...my workshop looks cheap with a POOlaris in there...lol

anyone reading, if it happens to you, drill a 1/4 hole throught the outside and into the shaft about half way, then slide a punch or old philips screwdriver with the end cut off in the hole. if you dont have a welder to repair the hole, install a hose clamp over it, then you can use it again if you have to.

back one side out a bit, then slide a open end wrench over the threads of the bolt and tighten down. You should now be able to unbolt the other side.

well, glad that ugly POOlaris is out of my workshop....new track looks good on the sled, basically its a kimpex version of a 1" hacksaw....
He must have been losing some serious power in that beast though...the speedo bearing was soooooo wrecked, could barely turn it...also, 3rd wheeel in rear - bearing was completely obliterated...and god that must have been making some huge noise!!!
That beaing said, not a fan of polaris sliders either...the way they seat onto the skid frames in kind of a pain!!
Anyways, just a quick thanks for the help I received in this thread, and that should be the last treack I do for a while, as I put a ripsaw in mine last year...next track will be for the 1982 Bravo...anyone have one? lol

Bolt removal
The easiest way to get a spinning bolt out is to take the side that wants to come out ,out. Then thread a nut on that bolt about 3/4" or so. Then line up suspension hole again and put bolt in until it hits the nut.Tighten nut aginst tunnel, then go to other side and break bolt free, loosen bolt until almost out, then loosen nut on other side. And remove that bolt, and voila! I've had to do this SO MANY times with cross shaft designs. Hope this helps people out.
