Had a little race yesterday with the sleds mentioned above, and lost to all 3. We only went for maybe 400 or 500 ft. On the hole shot all 3 got me off the line with me brothers XC700 taking a strong lead (his is jetted and some clutching). the other XC 700 is bone stock as is the ZR 600. After the 4 or 500 ft. I had to back off as there was too much dust and didn't seem to have a chance. Although I was really gaining on the 600 after losing the holeshot. In the end the XC 700 was about 6 or 7 sled lengths ahead, the XC 700 the (stock one) was about 4 ahead and the little 600 was about 2 lengths ahead.
All sleds except the 600 have ripsaw tracks. My sled is a 2001 700SXR with a new ripsaw I bought it used this year so not sure about jetting. but I know there was some clutching done to it as there is some info about it written on the secondary. The clutch engages at 4700 rpm and revs out at 8400 if that tells anything about whats done to it.
I'm really hoping someone out there has the recipe to at least get me close to the XC because that really hurt. Would Viper transfer rods help? I don't want to do anything too radical that would effect the reliability of the machine, and I mainly trail ride.
Any info would be really really be appreciated.
Thanks guys
Slow Eddie (for now anyway)

SXR 700 will be in trouble against the XC 700's ( too much HP) Properly clutched and set up you should take that 600, 500 ft is too short for your tripple to get the 600, Run a 1/4 mile or longer and he is yours! I have seen good set up XC 700s run with my SRX ! Pipes would be your only chance against them!
my buddy has a 03 prox700 and unless i hook up good on take off with my 97 sx700 ideal traction for me he pulls and i can't catch him by four sleds after a bit i start realing in but by then he lets off, you can set your sled up for better take off and keep them closer but this is a trade off for trail riding comfort, it is A or B not both, remember your down on power and transfer for drags...need to spend some time and money ie, thin head gasket, porting work or pipes or do what i did and buy another sled....good luck CP

add reed spacer or do the reed notch and peel the head gasket if these mods are not yet done. You will have to read on the tech page for these mods as well as suspension set up. Properly set up you will beat the ZR....those XC700 are fast for a single pipe stock SXR.

yea ur sled has like 112 hp stock the polaris 700 depending if PV or not are around 125 130. every one thinks its all displacment when it comes to a sled. my buddy made a big deal cause his F6 would beat my sxr when he had 8 hp more stock and like 30 lbs lighter. PVs EFI all makes a huge differance on a sled motor. just remeber they may have beat u but ull mostlikly be towing them out of the woods befor the end of the season.

Just enjoy your "slow" yamaha because when he's on the side of the trail
with his hood up looking a $500 bill you'll be cruising by!!

I had a "99 non-pv xc700 polaris. It was fast. I had a minor clutch set-up basically the xc sp setup. It would actually beat the newer '04 at the time power valved 700 edge. I really don't think you'll beat one without some good mods. On top maybe but not off the line. I would swear that xc 700 I had would hang with my now SRX till about 50-60, of course I never owned the 2 at the same time.......and I hate to be pro-polaris on the site but I put 2200 trouble free miles on that sled and I bought it used.....I will admit I Love my yammis but this was the most reliable sled I have owned and very EASY TO WORK ON!!!! god the srx is a pita!
My cousins 02 XC800(stock) barely pulls my Viper, Im really suprised your having trouble with a 700 with your SRX7. Did you just sit and spin off the line?
The ZR will get alot better holeshot on lose snow because of transfer, but you will deffinitly blow by him in any real distance. My SRX 600 will toy with them at speed!
Im guessing you need to work on traction set up.

yep, thats probably the only reason I did not buy a sxr700 in 00, and I got my xc600sp VES. Had I known that you could indeed throw reverse on a srx, then I would have gone yami back then.
fwiw, my xcsp 600 had 116hp new, and weighed a lot less than the sxr700. I have run several single piped sx700/ sxr700/ vmax 700s down on top end, as well as 0-top end...
Still the yami is a great sled. don't worry a bit.
Put some bender tripples on that SXR with a clutch kit and reed spacers.
It will be a different story.

seriously by the time you put a clutch kit on, pipes and spacers you might as well sell your sled and buy a nice SRX.
