The Polaris 800 VES motor is a dog out of the box.
Biggest pig I have seen from poo was their Fusion, or should I say confusion..

I have never ridden a Fusion but I have heard the 2006's can really run when they get all the updates done and are clutched good. Take it for what it's worth, a grain of salt.
I would never own one, the hood is the ugliest thing I've ever seen.

I did not like the hood styling of the fusion, but it still looked better than the new f series.
Now the chassis of the fusion was jsut fine, so was the motor. I have ridden an IQ 600 LE 2 years ago, and it was impressive.
It also looked sweet with the RMK style bodywork that they changed to all IQ sleds have.

maybe I should start a poll as to which is uglier between the fusion, and the twin spar f series cats.
both are ugly, but at least with the fusion they realized their styling mistake and went with the rmk body (IQ)only after like what 2 years.
Also, if you really hate the body styling of the fusion, you can at least swap plastics from an IQ/ rmk wishbone chassis sled. The cat, well, unless there is something aftermarket you are screwed.
Or you could fix either sled the cheap way and run that black vinyl tarp over the bodywork like they do on test mule new cars. LOL

$600??????? are you crazy? You can get a good set of used triples for around $300. Buy the parts you need to clutch it used..Maybe $100. Reed noth and head gasket mod $0. Now with my math that puts you around 130-135 HP for $400. 20-25 HP for $400 is amazingly cheap and the redheads can be 100% reliable even with all these mods!! don't throw in the towel yet on the SXR and go out and buy an SRX, you still have hope even without powervalves!!!! this thread is CRAZY talk!!!!! Spank on some XC's!!

I installed Aaen tripples, 50/40 helix, w.w.w primary 8Dn10 weights new green secondary for about $465.00. I would start with the reed notch or spacers and peel back the head gasket to one layer. DO some clutch work make sure your suspension is properly set up and see how you like the sled after.
this would cost about $125.00.
this would cost about $125.00.
I did all of the mods on the tech page over the years and each mod added a little but when I was done everything came together and it's night and day difference from stock.
Most of them are pretty low buck to boot.

back in the day i had a 1997 sx700 with power inc. triple pipes, reed spacers, 144 studs, transfer rods, and a good clutch kit. the f7 got me in the hole but i smokes him in the long run. i could even smoke a stock srx

You can make some really cheap mods to the SX/SXR 700's to make them work better in drags, if that is your only concern, drop a tooth or two on the jackshaft, do the head gasket mod, bore the silencer, see tech pages. You will also want to let the front snubber strap out a position or two, install a smaller spacer on the top or your transfer rods. If you want to continues to throw money at her, install reed spacers, and a boost bottle. I have a old 97 with spacers, shaved head, because it warped, boost bottle, bored silencer, and a HeelX roller secondary, one tooth smaller on the jackshaft, and I have beaten both Vipers I went up against, but had trouble with both 800 cats and F7's, thing still gets better mileage than my wife's with her SX7, with M-10 installed. Had a set of tripples on my 01, Hauck Hushers and they never really performed up to expectations.

i tell ya a properly set up sx700 will take the xc700 at least mine did and his is piped and clutched. this is what i have done if it helps ya. Bender Racing pipes, thin head gasket, reed spacers, Heavy hitters clutch. im at about 135 for hp. You put pipes on your sled. the sled will wake up gain about 25hp with triple pipes. i have not been beat by my buddies xc700 yet but im sure it will come now that my sled is 11 years old and his is 5 years old. just my 2cents
A different story...
I lined up with one of the XC700s that I lost to, and although the 2 times that we raced were not fair starts we were pretty even starting from a dead stop and and a roll on start. All I did (so far) is adjustable transfer rods.

I Have done a lot to my sxr 700 to make it tear! The first thing i would do is weight trasfer. Doesn't matter if you add 50 horse, you will still be spinning. I set my rear top shock in the loose position. (Down) loosened limiter straps, and cut out the plastic spacer on my trasfer rods. (top one) that made a huge diffrence. Skiis would just hang till i let off the gas. But be carful if cutting plastic spacer off. The track may have more tendency to ratchet. I have anti ratchet drivers. (Worth every penny) Then i added slp tripple pipes, heavy hitters, roller secondary, Dropped 1 tooth off top gear, open air box, reed spacers, track extentions 136" 136'x1/34x15 track. Man it feel like i am untouchable. on hard pack i can pull my skis at 70. (I Have witness cuz no one would believe me) The only sled that was close was a 800 cat, far from stock. And when i raced him my clutch kit was not set up right. I changed it since then and he sold the sled. I Still beat him though. but not like i wanted to. I can still hit 105 with that track!!!
I have read (pretty much) all of this thread. I cannot believe that no one has mentioned adjustable transfer rods? Besides the hp, that's the #1 reason you lose, no traction at all!

little bit of clutching and I am sure you can take him. triples have alot more torque than twins i find so once you are properly set up for the hole shot you should leave him. I love when poolaris's blow up, so just keep racing him and he will grenade soon lol. good luck
