How to loosen track on 98 600 SX ?

Sorry for a very basic question. I am working on replacing my hifax on a 98
600 sx. The track is too tight and hifax is binding up on rear axle wheel when
trying to pull off through the track window. I did finally get it off by peeling
the old hifax off on one side then pulling through the track window. But I
will never get new one back on with the track as tight as it is.

It looked to me like I needed to loosen the nuts on the very rear of the
axle through the track windows. I loosened both left and right side nuts
until the nut was flush with the end of the bolt. Then I ran the engine to turn
the track a couple times trying to get the axle to move toward the front
of the sled to loosen the track. But the axle is not sliding forward at all.

What is the correct procedure to loosen the track ? Is the rear axle supposed
to slide forward to loosen the track ? I does not look like the bolts turn, only
the nut ? Turn nut to the right to tighten the track and turn nut to left to
loosen the track ?

You have to loosen the axle nut itself also, where the outside wheels are. This will allow the axle to move.
