Ok guys I have checked out all things that have been recommended as you have and you can review the thread "gas in airbox" for the complete background.

My clutches are all cleaned and freshened up and are performing beautifully. Floats are set as well. I still have an ugly "babble" in the mid range that I am sure is causing my gas problems. I am only getting 90 miles to the tank max and my buddy with the same viper is 160 miles per tank.j

I think I may have this narrowed down to a faulty TPS as suggested by Mr. Viper. Is there any way to test the TPS as I am waiting for a new rack of carbs to throw in and test them with the new TPS. I have tested the TPS readings and it seems to be in spec. Apparently a faulty TPS can affect mid range fuel consumption but will have no affect on the overall performance of the sled and that seems exactly what my problem is.

How do you check/set the TPS correctly????

If there are any othere suggestions out there please feel free to add but damn I need to figure this out!!!!!

I will be interested to see how this works out. both my srx's have become fuel pigs. I'm not trying to hijack a post. I changed both from stock clutch to www, 4.5g bth holes and grnn sec. on one sled and the red on the other. running the 47 helix and the 54/43. Works awsome but seems to have dimished the milage. fuel screws are at 1.25 and the 2000 still haw stock lean jets. first ride this year was 11mpg...last year in quebec with this set up it got at it's worst 9 mpg (trail 35 rail bed between 75-90mph for 100miles) so its odd... I honestly thought is was the gas! now I'm not so sure because last year the took the other srx for a ride and it was getting the same...about 11. my friend Jon who had an srx with a bender kit said he got between 14-16... clutching???? could be... I have put 5k on the 2000 since I bought it. on average it always got 12-13 and I have even seen 15.... So I'm thinking about going back to stock just to prove the theory(also i should note that I set the fuel screws on both sleds to what the book said....1 1/8 not more than 1-1/4. tracks are loose. new belts. chain tension finger tight(meaning loose/tight you know).... so this is what I'm looking at...its either the gas, the fuel screws, the clutching, or???? I'm thinking gas and fuel screw combination...maybe???? Clutchs are effiecient and always cool....who knows...I'm going to mess with it...nice thing is I have two sledw....so I with figue it out
ohhh and to answer you question...
I don't know what voltage value you should see with the throttle closed....but and correct me if I'm wrong....you have a three wire sensor....pwr, ground, and sensor lead. with a meter you should be able to check the sensor for opens. unplug the connector. take meter and get on two of the leads on the sensor ( I don't know the wire colors and I'm not home so I can't check my srx book) open the thottle slowly and you should see the resistance change. Follow it and you should see the the resistance decrease as you open the throttle. look for opens or for jumps to a higher resistance as the throttle opens . on a car...you have 5 volts powering the sensor...so as the throttle opens the voltage increases because the resistance is decreasing...using the car as an example closed throttle is like .7 to 1.0v and wide open is maybe 4.8volt.... some one on here should know the closed throttle resistance and wide resistance value along with the wire colors.... I will check when I get home and add the info based on what the book for the srx says....

also....is it possible to swap clutchs with the other viper..you will need a puller for the primary but it you swap both prim and sec and give it a try you can rule out the clutching... maybe the trouble will follow....just a thought.

Rock on!

I found the problem

Well I found the problem.....Yesssssssssssssss....Now I just have to figure out how to fix it.

I took the airbox off and have done so in the past but I never reved the motor up over 6000 rpm. There was never much spray below 6000.

Today I put her up on the stand and gave it some good throttle. As the sled when over 6000 rpm the spray came out quite heavily from of all three carbs.
It was so heavy that there is no doubt about it......this is my problem. Trouble is what the heck is causing this. I have changed the reeds they are brand new. When I changed them all the reeds were seated to the cage so how the heck is gas blowing back thru the carbs.

Some suggestions please. Should I change out the whole reed cages with new reeds or what??? I think I am going to do that anyway I just need

Is there any other reason this could be happening because my reeds are brand new. Could the cages be messed up and out of spec or what???
