Again, as the track hooks up (with studs), the load thru the clutching will increase and raise your rpm. Try this experiment. Put the sled on a stand and run it (with the track off the ground). Open the hood and clutch guard and watch the clutch work. Watch how quickly and how soon the primary shifts all the way out. It will be fully shifthed out into overdrive at about 6000 rpm. That's because there is no load on the helix to hold the clutching in a lower 'gear'. Another experiment can be done to show the opposite, but I don't recommend trying it. That is to do the the same thing only this time grab the brake and do not let the track turn. You will smoke the belt, but the clutch will not shift out and you will be running 8500 rpm.
Basically, the feedback thru the helix has a HUGE impact on shift out rpm, and must be considered when adding/subtracting weight. You will be chasing your tail if the snow conditions are different test day to test day, and are not considered.

Good luck to you.I just re-did my clutching.I put 8.1 grams in tip and 6.7 grams in heel.I am still waiting for my 45 pilots to come in,got my carbs out right now.Besides there is no good snow around to open it up out here.I should be engaging at a true 4000 and wot should be 8500ish.

well im dead on now with 7.5g in the tip 8500-8600 all the time, and the snow was hardpack tonight. Now i did see it going to 8500 than after a while drop to 8400 than climb back to 8500, so im on the edge of overshifting, i have the green spring at 70 wrap. am i losing alot because of this? its barely overshifting and i only saw it do it once. raced the f7 and on the gun he pulls me one lenght and after that where dead even dammit, i dont understand lol, the guy swears hes stock, witch i tend to belive since hes not mecanichly inclined. i raced another one 2 weeks ago and smoked him, weird

What do you have in the heel for weight. And what is your engagement also.Do you have any type of bog on take-off.I have 8.1 in tip and with 6.7 in heel, hesitates on take off.I am thinking the heel is to heavy. If I feather the throttle up to 3000 and pin it..she flies out of the hole.I am basically at 8500 wot and no more

4.8g engagement around 4100, i had 5.8g before and engagement around 3800, but the sled had lost alot of its zip, i like the 4.8g setup alot better!

your probably getting the bog off the start from haveing all of the weight in the tip.

how far are you guys racing?
Also, you load up the heel till the engine starts to become lazy then back it off some, too much heel weight will make it lazy down low.

humm dont know the lenght, but i have time to reach atleast 100mph, i dunno my sled feels fast tho, i wil have to retest with my buddys attack, i was in front of him by a sled the last time so it should be atleast the same lol. also as i said don i saw it overshifting by 100rpm once , it went 8500 then after a while went to 8400 then right back to 8500, am i loosing alot there, the rest of the day, i always saw 8500 going to 8600. the green spring is wrapped at 70 should i go 80? it was a good day to test, hardpacked snow and it was also cold! Man that guy with the f7 really really teased me, cant wait to show him 780 power, we'll see who gets the last laugh hehe
f7 are very fast ....... more if they add some v force and clutch kit ....

sounds like to me your doing alot of spinning and playing catch up, which is hard to do, you may need to work on the rear suspension and get it hooking, thats where you win races, the holeshot, after the first 60ft, its all over unless you have lots and lots ofhp to pull by on the big end.
thats 100% true same on road race car need alots of hp to catch them if they fly on 60 feet lolll

nah i played alot with the rear suspension, i have it transfering to my liking, just enought that its still fun to trail ride. most of the races with him where from a rolling start + - 20mph, but we did race from a dead stop twice and the frist 60 foot i was in front, but he managed to still pass by a sled after that and then it would be dead even. I know how mutch the first 60ft is important lol, i had a FWD 4 cylinder drag car, that i got to hook 1.42 in the 60, and anybody thats raced a FWD car knows how hard thats to do!

then thats not a stock f7, they dont run like that till they get 800 kit with fancy ecu!! someones been doing stuff also over the summer, he probally took it somewhere and had it put in if hes not mechaniclly inclined, lots of that stuff goes on....LOL!! I do it for people on here all the time and they want to keep it hush hush and not tell their buddys.....LOL

well i just finished studing my track (96 1.175 goldiggers) my track is a 1" hacksaw. my clutching was dead on before that after many tests lol. I had 4.8 in heel, 7,6 in tip green secondary at 70 51/37dalton helix 8500-8600 rpms rock steady
now that i installed the studs, on the zip from a dead stop it goes to( now it really hooks up like a mot**) 8000 8100 then climbs to 8300-8400, damm i never tought studding would change that mutch. I removed one gram from the tip now and will retest. On a good note now my buddys attack (not studded lol) is not even close from a dead stop i get 2-3 sleds and keep about 2 on a 1/4 distance. rolling he gets one on the holeshot and then its pretty even.
