Here is my 95 with the mods listed below. The Xtra-10 is a great improvement. I'm sure there are better skids, but these are cheap and take about two hours to install including drilling 2 holes and making two larger. I have reinforcement brackets/spacers that are fast and easy to install. Pipes?, Thats your call. The GYTR twins are another great improvement IMO.

Here are some pics of my dads and mine, The blue one (mine) is a 96 XT w/ the stock suspension etc.. The red one is a 94 that we put an XT suspension in. The first two w/ the 94 are with the stock suspension. the last shows the holes and such w/ the XT.

i did all kinds of work to my '96's thinner head gasket, jets, needle drop and a few other things. i have it all written down outside in the garage. all in all it really did not improve things a whole lot but it was noticeable, mostly i was trying to get better mileage and i did do that! i have a ton of extra parts , let me know if you ever need anything!

No it wont.. Use ATF LOL
80/90 will work just fine. alot of oils will work
OZ
yes but...
Two worthwhile improvements to this sled is a deeper track (stock has poor traction) and some clutch improvements (see member performance table in the Tech section). Also a thinner head gasket will improve the overall performance although you will need to run a higher octane fuel.

If you go to a thin HG, you definitely want to run premium gas. Just sold my 96 and also have my spare parts listed in our classifieds.
I had pipes on mine. It ran good, maybe I was lucky as my reliability issues came from not having cleaned the carbs.
The big help on the sled was to have my rear shocks revalved/rebuilt. I had a ton of worn out parts in the rear suspension. I think it was previously mentioned that the bushing are way cheaper than the hard parts that wear once the bushings are gone....
