Grimmy, i would do some checking with a digital voltmeter, before the voltage regulator/rectifier, will be ac voltage, check the output, then check after the regulator dc voltage, then check after the relay, i think youll find the culprit then, sounds like low voltage to me.

I found a used stator on e-bay from an 04 viper, fixed all my elec problems. I'm just wondering now if the 02 and 04 stators are the same. should've checked first, its in and running fine, so hopefully I'm ok

My sled acted up a few weeks ago on a -5 degree morning. Started up fine but the gage pod did not come on and there was no headlight. Let the sled run for a while to warm up and still had nothing. Hit the kill switch and the gage came on just as the sled was shutting off, rest of the day no problem, but the next cold morning it did it again only this time it came on a minute or so after the sled was started. I've heard of this harness under the motor issue, maybe I should pull it and have a look.

My problem is just like Grimmy's on page 2. I have a 2004 Viper S and also can not find a grounded wire. I unplug the brake light switch and the problem stops. When using the hi/low switch the engine cut outs for just a second.
Grimmy - Any news on finding your problem?
Looking for any ideas...
Thanks,
Craig

I also have the EXACT same symptoms as Grimmy. I've also been through harness under motor and seat, as well as all around the steering shaft/cowling. I haven't checked the wires under the cdi yet like suggested by Mrviper, but will be the next thing I look at. If they appear to be ok I'm going to test the stator. By the way, where is the stator on these, lol? I haven't even looked for it yet.

I pulled my CDI and checked all wiring. Found no worn or bare spots.
Mod-it , The stator is under the fly wheel which is under the starter/recoil assembly.
Anyone - how does one test the stator to confirm it is the problem?
Had an 02 Viper with 11,000 miles - no issues like this.

haven't had a chance to get back to it recently, will do some checks on voltage here tonight (Feb 15th), I'll let everyone know what I find.
