Yes it is possible. There is a list here or on amsnow somewhere over what you need.
VERY VERY possible.
I dont believe there was much needed for the 01.
I think the CDI boxes from what I remember are the same part #
I know you need the water rail, sensor, gauge pod, (maybe drill a hole for the light) and possibly a wiring harness.
The 00 SRX requires alot more parts.

thanx for that info
any idea what the list is under mabey the thread title or the originator
So the 01 is an easier conversion that sounds good once I know what I need I will try to find second hand and buy the rest at the dealer
the sled only has 4300 k on it ,its in real good shape but it needs a few pistons and mabey a cylinder I have not opened it up yet
I am really excited that the conversion is possible and relatively easy
any more info on either ;parts where abouts ,or info where abouts , would be greatly appreciated
Thanx

piston=140
rings=50
pin=16
circlip=5
bearing=12
o-ring upper=20
bottom gasket =forgot to check
all these prices are before taxes of 15% that works out to about 275 a hole

that is expensive....I know everyone on here says buy OEM only, I wouldn't know what to do either.
OEM all the way. Especially if you are going to trail ride this sled. PREMIUM gas only and keep your power valves clean. This engine should have easily seen 13,000-15,000 kms. I have just over 13,000 kms and still running strong on my 2001 SRX. Aftermarket is alright in short lived racing engines. Hope this helps.
try pm'ing port yamaha. the prices might look a little better. that sounds expensive to me as well.

lol no thats not to bad at all, i have a folder at home with the bills from the dealer this year to redo the top end and some small other items (crank seals, water pump gasket etc....) lol i dont even want to add them all up cuz i think i'd cry lol
I just added up the prices it comes to 280+the cylinder base gasket
I figgure around 300 a hole WOW that is steep
I will try port Yamaha as someone suggested
Well off to work for me

Try checking online, better deals out there..
here's just one of many, http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/fiche_select.asp?mfg=Yamaha&partnumber=
compression on a stocker should be 125-130ish, @ operating temp WOT.

srx's loose top speed with aftermarket cans. lots of posts here on that. if you want to lighten it up to play in powder and do not care about top speed then you are fine. otherwise leave it stock.
