that's the difference....we are talking piped 700.
???? Help me sort out the conversions....
Hi guys,
I may be totally out there, but isn't mpg the same as "miles per gallon"?
Since I am used to the metric system I then convert mile to km and 1 mile is approx 1,609 km, then convert gallon to litres and 1 gallon is approx 3,7 litres.
That gives that if you fill up the tank to the hilt, it will be arond 12,7 gallons in the tank. Right?
Then most people here say that you can go around 10 mpg with a piped red head, which converted means that the sled consumes approx 2,3 liters/10 kilometers. Right?
I need someone to correct me if I am wrong here!
Anyways. IF I am correct. I went out boondocking this saturday and got the following result 6,8 mpg. Before piping my sled with Benderpipesand jetting according to Bender (and TURKs clutching) that I could easy go 10 mpg with the same conditions. That is +30% fuelconsumtion and I don't dare to think of what happens when I go full throttle even more....
I asked the question in this thread myself, but the answers are the important thing. http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=45158

The gas tank is said to be 12 gallons (45.42 liters) You're getting 7 to 8 mpg. You should be getting better mileage than that. What jet sizes are you running now? I was told that too big of a pilot jet will kill your mileage

I am running the Bender spec jetting. 150 mains straight across, 52,5 pilots, needle clip middle position and both washers beneath. Fuel screw 1,5 turns out.
If I have understood this thread right, I should go with the 50 pilots and fuel screw 1,5 turns out. Same position for needle as I have now.

you have to check plugs and piston wash to know what to do with jetting or you may pop a piston.

I don't know what Bender recommends for mileage but a lower pilot will help mileage some. Pilot jet controls 0-1/4 throttle.

Do I have to do that even when I can feel it is rich below 3k rpm, because it hesitates more than stock before it responds. Above 3k rpm I am sure it is good or a tiny bit rich, but right now I don't care about that. Only about the lower throttle respons (and yes I have reedspacers).

it nothing to pull a plug and check after you make a change, I would.

I would normally too, but since there is too little snow closeby home. I want to fix the slow throttle respons on lower rpm and THEN go try it out and maybe go back again.
But point taken and agreed upon in a normal situation. Even though the Bender stock jetting is (at least if I understand it correct a bit fat).

Alright, I will be the first to throw the BS card. mid teens on a piped redhead...smoke another one!!!!!!! so everyone else w/ pipes gets 10 mpg except you??? I doubt it.

Thanks BBlueSRX!!!! you pulled the words right from the inside of my mouth, my thoughts exactly. Whatever brand those pipes are, I want a set.......To SMOKE out of!
I agree with bbsrx... no way can you get that kinda milage...maybe 12-13 but thats about as high as she goes, boys....dont care what kinda gadget you got on it!
All I know is what I see on the odo for mileage whose to say that my odo isn't right??? maybe it is only getting 12-13???? Sorry Don't smoke!!!BBlueSRX said:Alright, I will be the first to throw the BS card. mid teens on a piped redhead...smoke another one!!!!!!! so everyone else w/ pipes gets 10 mpg except you??? I'd still like to know how anyone is able to use Benders recommended jetting when I (and others) can't (not that I'd want to anyway though). With 52.5 pilots I'd have to go buy a couple hundred spark plugs. And it'd run so bad I wouldn't even want to ride the thing.

Take it easy guys, I believe the original question was stock or piped.

Have you also gone down a size in mainjet?

No but I might to at least 148.8's. Not sure if I'd go to 147.5's or not since I haven't been able to get plug readings at WOT throttle yet. But I'm pretty sure I'd be safe with 148.8's.
