Need help with steering

I just picked up a 1999 Vmax 600 triple deluxe. I initially thought there was an exhaust problem because it whined loud, but it seems ok. The thing screams...however, it's too fast. The skis seem squirrelly. I haven't made any adjustments. I'm wondering, is there a way to adjust the suspension or other skis I could try to cut down on the darting side to side on groomed trails? When I get on the throttle, it throws me back! I love the look and the power as well as reverse and the couch like seat...would love for it to handle like it looks. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Could try pulling up on the front limiter straps and trying the ski shim mod,
check tech section(link in my sig) for the shim mod.

good carbides(shaper bars) shimmed skis will make it handle better. the stock skis ar not a very agressive ski so if your going to ride it hard you may want some better skis. darting is not caused by the ski though. it is caused by carbide, carbide design and placement and shim(preasure front to back on the carbide)

I got new carbides, and shimmed the skis... things are much better in tight trails but on the straights, it's still squirrelly at speed (>50mph) but a cool sled none-the-less.

Did you check your ski alignment? You have to have a slight amount of toe-out. We are running Woody's doolies and find they help alot. You will notice that the carbides on these skiis seem to be mounted further aft, and I'm sure that's a big part of it. If you don't have issues with the cornering, you may want to back off the snubber strap a couple of positions, extend the strap, and maybe even increase the center shock preload a bit to take weight off the skiis.

wonder if I should take it in...

I'm only a backyard, weekend wrench...I'm not sure I'm knowledgeable enough to start mucking with the suspension...It's actually running pretty nice now. Still a bit squirrelly at high speeds on groomed rutted trails, but well mannered in the woods.
