I'm looking at the top pic, the left and right cyl./ piston, looks not to bad
you can see a little wash, the midle one looks lean, detention.
check and clean carbs so it don't happen again..
mic the other too out, if within spec you can reuse..

Looks like the rings might have been stuck in the 2 cylinders that didn't melt down.Should be clean below the rings.

OK her e we go. I have ordered a new cylider, bearing and rings for the middle cylinder and also new rings for the other two. I mic'd everything out and here is what I came up with all three cylinders were 2.717 and piston 1&3 were 2.708 and the middle piston was 2.697. Tell me what you think.
Here is my problem, as I stated earlier the center piston had apparently been replaced before since It has different markings on it. Last night I cleaned the carbs and jets. They were almost spotless but did it anyway. all three were jetted the same, stock I assume 155 & 4.5. I worried about having the same cylinder go down again as this has already happened twice. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I would put her to stock spec's and run her, keeping an eye on it,
i'd rather burn a little more gas then re-build a $$ motor all the time.
someone probably jetted down for better mileage..

How about my measurements. I am thinking the last guy who rebuilt that middle cylinder put the wrong piston in!!

Yea i see that..lol looks tight, not sure on vipe clearances but if too tight
she'll squeak on ya.
when you re do this make sure you use all OEM yamaha parts, check on line
good prices out there, oem is the only way to go..if that middle cyl, has
been bored/sleeved i'd look for a another good used stock one to use, get
'er all back to stock and you shouldn't have any more troubles IMO..

02 viper Hauck Performance
i have a 02 viper with a Hauck performance package on it, triple pipes #4 clutch, jetting so on and so forth....anyway its puttin out a claimed 150 hp and has 4600 miles on it, i just bought it with 4450 on it, runs AWSOME but i was wonderin if it would be a good idea to put a top end in it?

running lean
Do yourself a favor, check everything from the airbox to the cylinder. Everywhere there are connections check your boots, seals, bolts, etc. An air leak is DEFINATELY the enemy! check the reeds. If a reed is chipped or cracked it will run lean. A triple will run and will run well with one bad reed.

Hey I know this was a while ago but how did you make out???????????????
I wanted to say I had an SRX that we bought with the SAME problem.
It turned out to be a bad THERMOSTAT! The guy replaced the piston AND cylinder, then it squeaked again after my buddy bought it. The problem was never found because they did not check the thermostat. It was stuck wide open obviously causing a cold seize. I have never worked on a viper but I know they are very similar to an SRX. CHECK your thermostat!
Hope this wasn't too little too late.

Rings, the pistons are slapping in the bores. You hear it at low RPMS.
