Hello all, great forum. My wifes 700 Venture has a wicked clunking noise coming from the front of the drive train / track. I thought the drive chain skipped or sprocket chipped a tooth. Opened her up last night, everything in chain drive case appears fine.

Put track up off ground and ran it and clunk was not present? Only when weight off machine is on track does it make the clunk, happens both in reverse and forward, every revoultion of track. Checked track for a rock or something stuck in slide nothing.

I have had suggestions that it could be the secondary shaft bearing or as simple as the track being to loose, could the it be as simple as the track being loose ?

Thanks all,

Could be a narrow spot burned in the belt. Try a new one.
If the sled was stuck or taking off cold when the track is frozen up.

Track not hitting the tunnel when down? Check to make sure it's not to loose. Is this the first time out or was it ok this winter on earlier runs? The reason I ask is if is the first time out. The track could have a flat spot as it comes around and if too loose my be slapping the tunnel somewhere. Make sure there is no Ice build up filling the clearance at the very front and back where the belt has to flex around.

Just my thoughs on that.

check the track tension. If it is too loose it will racthet under load, but not while no load is on it.

Check the belt for any "narrow" spots...

Thanks guys, I will be diving back into it shortly here. I will check all of the above now that both the chain case and secondary side are ripped right down !

Hello all,

Got her fixed, it was a combination of things. The bearing sets screws on speedo side has come loose and the bearing was shot allowing the drive axle to move back and forth causing the inside portion of the drive axle to rub sides and the bolt that holds primary gears has also come loose and was rubbing the inside the case. I replaced the bearing, two springs and a new drive chain. Going out today to test it and retighten track.

Thanks again,

KC
