97 Vmax XT suspension ?

Guys, Tried quick adjusment on wifes VMax XT rear suspension. Set the adjuster to soft setting and sled still rides to rough for her. The sled has an 01 SXR front and rear suspension installed. Took some measurments Front bumper is 17" from floor to bottom of front bumper, rear ( no load) is 18". This sled sets low compared to my Viper. I think that the suspension is out of an SX or SRX ( 7" front, 8" rear). I plan on taking some more measurement once snow melts out of the rear. I have downloaded most of the specs for both 8" and 11.5" so I plan on dropping the rear and checking things out. I can say for sure that the front shocks and springs are not stock nor is the rear. I have the stock skid minus shocks. Can someone please measure thier sled and give me an idea what I have? The transfer rods have large spacer top and bottom, just like my old SRX.

Help! 8" or 11.5" suspension?

O.K Took some measurements to compare Vmax front bumper height 17", Rear 18" ( My viper 15" and rear is 20.5") Front shock set in 20mm(8"), Rear front sm shock 19mm(7.75"), Lg Rear 33.5mm (13.25") Front limiter 23mm, rear transfer rods same spacer above and below (1/4 "). I think that the previous owner put an SRX skid and front shocks and not an SXR has he told me. Can someone help me figure this out. Nothing matches the factory set up for long travel sled. The front arms are all original (9"), with 7" shock and springs? I have the orignal rear skid with a Kimplex gold 04-287 front shock and a rear KYB shock with V66J stamped on it. He told me he picked the KYB shock at ebay. Is that a long travel shock? Please help! The suspension is in really good shape but want the long travel for the wife. I need to know what I have so I can do the correct set up. Thanks
 
1- how much sag on the front suspension ride height, fully extended - resting on its own weight= ?
2- do you know if the center front skid shock preload is set stiff or soft?
3- do this -place a jack under the front of sled between the control rods and start jacking- when the skis carbides are just kissing the ground- is the front of skid touching or in the air?

Coldplay, I Can only say that the rear shock is on the stiff set point now.
Not sure how to measure sag? Do you mean how much it will drop/raise from no weight to sleds weight? I will take measurement on #3 tonight. Thanks for the help! How can you tell the differance between an 8" or 11.5" rear travel. I think the suspension front and rear is out of a 01 SXR. I also think the rear is set up for a large man, I weigh around 230 and it still rides stiff for me and not much travel! i adjusted the rear to soft setting but didn't leave it there for testing do to the adjusting bolt and nut being stripped and would not stay in the soft setting and we were a long way from home and did not want to chance an issue. Coldplay, I jacked the front until skies were just skimming the floor. about 2" from bumper to floor. The track stayed flat to ground. I measured the tranfer rods they are 15" long Same as spare long travel (original)and have a 1/2" spacer on top and 1/4" on the bottom. How do you measure sag? Thanks Terry
 
1- are the 2 shocks in the skid kyb aluminum shocks, post pics if you can
2- your front sag is 2" this is on the firm side, back off on the adjuster springs on the front shocks so the springs are loose then finger snug collers to the springs and tighten lock collar.
3- the difference between 8" and 11.5" suspensions are shock length center to center (shock mount bolt holes) get this for me for both shocks, this is done the easiest by removing them, while they are out the suspension can be pushed back and forth thru its travel to make sure nothing is binding. The shock spring preloads can be set easier out of sled as well.
4- what is the gap space on the transfer rods, just push the 1/4" plastic down and measure the gap above it. take photo if you can

place jack under front and get the skis in the air a couple of inches...

1st- loosen the front preload off the front shocks (back the adjuster off so the spring is just loose -and snug a turn retighten collars) and do the same for the center skid shock as well.
2nd- something is binding the control rod gap(space) should be on top and be about 5/8" for a softer ride setting for your wife. you can order different thickness plastic shims from a dealer to get this gap.
3rd- these skids need to be greased and have good bushings to move freely if you have never had this suspension apart i would order a set of bushings from pioneer performance and take a afternoon and go thru this skid completely.
4th- fix your bolt to set the fra in the middle position.
5th- have your wife sit on the sled and set the control rod gap for 50/50 top to bottom or 60/40 for a little softer ride setting.

lastly..do some post searches for betheviper he has good write ups on adjusting the proaction and adding grease fittings to some key areas on the suspension....later CP
