SXR running strange after reed stopper notch?

Guys I took some vids of the wife's sled after I did the reed stopper notch. If you listen clearly you can here it with like a burble or stumble sound at idle and in the vids after it starts to sound like it normally does and best I can remember from last year. I couldn't start it before the mod because a fuel line was cracked. Let me know if it sound alright or if it sounds wrong. No nasty comments about the Can,( no noise bylaw here) I know some of you guys hate them but the wife likes it and it ran perfect with it last year. I still have the stock can to try and maybe do the mod to that one.

Tried uploading the vids one at a time and no luck. They are as small as I can make them. I can probably email them or if someone knows how to get them on the site let me know.
 
Carbs were cleaned during the reed stopper notch. It did back fire this fall when I was trying to get it started to move it into the garage. after that I just dragged it in to the shop because I was thinking that It might have damaged a reed. Reeds looked ok. No signs of crackes. They all sat flat on the reed cages. I am going to take that all out again and have another look.

It does clean up better once it warms up. Watch the videos from 1-3 and you can tell. When it is first started it sounds like it is over fueling then as it warms up the stutter only happens once in a while. Throttle response is good. The pto cylinder is richer then the center and mag according to the plugs.
 
I know this might be a dumb question but have you tried new plugs? Have you tested the plug caps? The resistance should be 5000 ohms for the caps.
 
Plugs are brand new but I know yamaha triples like to foul them when they idle for a long or short time. Plug caps have not been checked and I don't know how to really do it. I hate electrical. Should have paid more attention in school on that part. I can overhaul any sled but the wiring gets me everytime.
 
All you need to do to check the plug caps is use a multi meter/pocket tester (on the ohm setting) and hook one lead to each side of the plug cap. You have to unscrew the cap off of the spark plug wire first though. It only takes about a minute tops to check each one. They should read 5k ohms (5000 ohms).
 
You know.. i have saw that when poeple twists there cranks it dosent fire right afterwards untill it goes to a higher rpm..You ever blew a belt before it started doing that..

To the last poster , no ,never blew any belts, The wife gets to nervous on the top end. She will pin it for a couple of seconds but then she backs off.

I have to service a couple of other sleds and then hopefully tear into her's and see what I can find.

Where is a good place down south to get Yamaha parts, Reeds, reed stoppers, etc.
 
twisted crank from backfire

I had a similar idle stumble like yours. Like yours, mine backfired real hard one time and the result was a twisted crank which in turn caused the idle issue. If you can't find the problem in the carbs, reeds, wires or plugs you may have to look at the crank to make sure it is not twisted and causing timing issues like mine did.

Just uploading another video on youtube. Keeping them short for fast uploads. This is what she sounds like after running for 20 minutes in the garage with the main door open the whole time. It didn't back fire real hard , not loud like through the pipe. This was through the carbs. If a backfire can through the crank out that easy, there must be a lot of sleds out there with cranks out of index. Wouldn't hurt to check with a dial gauge I guess.

I also checked the plug caps and the pto was 4.98, center was 4.52 and mage was 5.02.

Could be the center one is giving me trouble.

Yea you can get the crank sent out if that the case.. But i saw manyyyy seld do that with a twisted crank... My boss has a zr 900 blew the belt at 115 mph!! He twisted the crank by 10 degrees!! And it idels like yours but only with 2 pistons :D lol
 
Just got back from a test ride. Trails are hammered to hell for what little snow we have here. Sled ran fine, never did a plug chop or anything just trying to get it hot enough to see if there was any more antifreeze missing and to see what the reed stopper notch was like. Everything seems good but I have no heat grips all of a sudden so off the trailer it comes for some looking around.
