Just got back from a ride today and noticed that my throttle really had a dead spot from 5000-6000 rpm (1/2 - 3/4 throttle.) At that rpm I'm going about 50mph and it feels like I'm dragging something behind me, after 6000rpm it really gets up and goes. Where should I look first? clutch? carbs? The sled has a clutch kit but not sure whats in it. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Mine was doing the same thing only it was from 4000-5000 rpm's and my needles were set too lean. But if you haven't made any changes and it just started doing this then maybe you have a different problem than I had.

PRIMARY!!!!!Take clutch apart and check.Maybe your spring is broken..check it out.You got to start somewhere and eliminate things.

whats the rpm when you wack the throttle open
Thanks for your response guys, I will check out the clutch and carb this week.
Hey Ted, not sure what top rpm is as I haven't had a chance to really open it up for very long. But what I should have mentioned is that I lost my snap out of the whole as well.At the start of the year if I just touched the throttle it would rip my head off. This all started right around when I lost to 2 xc700s and ZR600.

How long is the sled sitting in between use & what are your snow conditions!!!No insults here, but did you clean them power valves up & are they adjusted properly...maybe a broken/pull through on a valve?

I ride the sled about every 5 days. I don't have power valves.
Ok, this morning I let the limiter strap out 2mm (now its at 23mm) to lighten up the ski pressure (man it was hard to steer). Took it for a test ride and noticed it wasn't doing what it was yesterday. ( dead spot from 5000-6000 ) at 50mph it was at 7000rpm instead of 5000-6000 It is the same temp as yesterday. Another thing I forgot to mention is when I accelerate slowly from stop to see where it engages it engages at 4800 but the sled won't move until 5200 or 5300 is this normal?

check your clutch out before it explodes or something.Engages to high.Check the spring.
Checked out primary clutch today, nothing out of the ordinary as far as I can tell. It was really dirty so I cleaned it up. I did notice that you can spin the rollers when the clutch is in the resting position. Is this normal? I tried to do the same thing to my bro's xc and you can't spin them unless you take the preload off the fly-weights.

i think it is normal did you pull cover and inspect clutch .Have to blown a belt latley by chance
Yes we pulled the cover and everything looked ok from what I could see. Just dirty.
No I haven't blown a belt but I did put a new one on to rule out the belt.
