hello all first off just wanted to say what a great site.

Ok now to my trouble i am working on a 1994 Phazer II . It sat for around 4 years we got it cleaned carbs and put in new fuel and it ran. Then it started to run on one cylinder only at low end.. Now it wont start at all.

I have cleaned the carbs a few times but what i need is a manual on the carbs i found it online one time but dont remember where.

Does anyone know where i can find an online manual for the butterfly carbs or can someone scan the pages for the carbs and post them.

If you can tell me what screws do what that would be a big help. What does the big plastic screw do? And what is the other cable that is next to the throttle cable ?

Any info would be a big help.

Thanks all Rob

Did you change the spark plugs? The big plastic screw is for the idle and the cable next to the throttle cable is for the oil injection.

Yea i changed the plugs out ? what should the oil injection cable be set at how do you set it ?

If it was my sled it would be gone But i dont own it just working on it for a winter project.

Thanks for all the help

Rob

Pull the pipe off and try to start it. If it sat that long it is very possible that mice have filled your pipe with a nest. A plugged pipe will cause the symptoms you are describing. If it won't run with the pipe off something else is going on.

Nah we had it running i used it last weekend on the lake for ice fishing. I think it is getting way to much oil i just dont have a book on how to adjust it. I took the pipe off last night and turned it over and it shot out a crap load of oil and fuel.

This is really stumpin me tho i checked the tors and that was unhooked and hooked back in to it self. I wish it had the round slide carbs. I wish i had my banshee still i would use them carbs

There is a manual available for phazers. You can get it from any of the aftermarket parts sources. Shadetree, Dennis kirk.

as pz1 says basics spark fuel air needs all three to run also check fuel pump diophram pull pulse line off to see if gas is getting threw if it is rebuild pump

Yes we have spark it was kind of weak so i took the caps off and cut the wire back some and put the caps back on looks good now. I am gonna pull carbs off again tomorrow i think . Last time i had them off we checked and it was getting fuel to the carbs. And compression is good 120 in both cylinders.

I think we will need to buy a book i was hoping to not have to because after this year i wont have the sled no more but i guess can never have enough books lol.

Right now i tryed to start it tonight and it would fire but wont stay running so i think i need to adjust the carbs some more that is why i was looking for a manual i seen online one time. It was in a pdf format i think.

did you Drain the gas all out, or did you just add new? old gas is no good at all. it will run epicly on new gas.

yea we sucked out over 4 gallons of old gas and i have ran around 4 gallons of perm through it and now i have some mid in it now.

What should the cable for the oil injection be at is there a normail setting for it?

What is the screw inbetween the carbs for???

I can get it to fire up now but it wont rev up and it just dies after a couple seconds . We just got 8inchs of powder and i would love to take her out for a run lol .

Sorry i am kind of new to the sleds i have worked on many motorcycles and dirtbikes and quads.

Rob

screw on top of each carb, turn them in all the way in(easy!) and back them out to 1 turn . could be your t.o.r.s switch is no good the big screw aside cable is for idle adjustment

ok that is what i thought i think that may be my problem i will know tomorrow imma pull them off and check it.

Does anyone know what the cable should be for the oil injection should be set at ???

Thanks all

Ok we have it running some what now.

But when we start it it will run but seams to be shooting alot of fuel out of the y pipe. I mean it is enough to spray the hood. What could be makeing this happen? Tomorrow if i dont go ice fishing i am gonna pull the choke plungers out and clean them and also clean and lub the cable.

What should The choke cable be at?

Im sorry for all the questions but it is an hour drive one way to the yamaha dealer and i would like to try and do it on my own. We are looking at getting a book but funds are tight as can be for me right now.

With the choke off and the boots at the carbs pulled up, lightly pull up on the cable making sure you are not compressing the spring. You should have about 1/16" of free play in the cable. As Ding said, if you didn't put the rubber plugs back in the right holes, That could be your problem. There are three holes in the bottom of the carb but, only two of them do anything. The two that have holes drilled into the main circuit need to be plugged on the bottom or you'll be bypassing the Main jet.
I had a one cylinder problem with mine, about the third time I had the carb apart, I found a "c" shaped piece of carbon looking stuff in a pilot jet. Sometimes it was plugged, sometimes it wasn't. I twisted up a piece of paper really tight to clean out the pilots.

Yea the first bit of trouble we had it was the black plugs. One carb was missing one so we went and got that. I will check them again tomorrow i dont think i took the carbs apart sents i put them in.

It ran good just a lil sluggish on low end and it would dirty up a plug if you were going at a low speed. If you would take the hot plug out and put it in the cold side it would run great.

I did some addjustments on the carbs and had it running good still a slight bog at low end. Drove it around the yard for 30 mins or so in powder and all of that. Then the next day went out a started it up let it warm up for a min got on it and started to the garage to park it and it died. Couldnt get it to fire up anymore.

I took the carb off a couple days ago and synced them. One still looks like it is sitting a lil higher then the other tho. How i synced them was i took 2 drill bits the same size and put them in there and made it so both of them were tight on them. Will that work ?

I am gonna check the idel screw in a couple days when it warms up some and see if that could be making it push to much fuel in the cyclinder.
