Just a follow up on my poor gas mileage on my 96 Vmax-600. I have the carbs off the sled and they looked pretty clean. The only thing is someone replaced the main jet from a #152.5 to a 146.3. The needle and pilot are stock but the main jet was changed. Would this cause the sled to run poor at mi-range? Also should I take the main jets out of my spare sled and see how it runs?

I also found that the pilot screw on the right side of the sled did not have the rubber o ring and small washer on it. Also spec's show the screw being at 2 turns and they were set at 1-3/4. would this cause any problems?

I'd put it all back to stock specs and see where your at. My thoughts are that yes, the smaller jets could be related to midrange suffering, less fuel, might be running lean at midrange. But lets see what others have to say.

I have 4500 miles and not sure what the compression is. I will check that tomorrow and post it. The needle was in the stock postion #2. Would the pilot screw missing the o ring cause any problems?

I just checked the compression in the sled and it was at 120 both cylinders. My son has the same sled and his also was at 120. I cannot find in my service manual what it should be.By having the 146.3 main jet in instead of the stock 152.5, what does that do to the fuel leaner or richer? Could also tell me what is the proper why to set the pilot screw at idle?tock specs say 2 but when I took the screws out they were at 1-1/2.

that number is good pup, putting the 152.5 back in will rich'en it up @ WOT.

your sled('96 XT) stock should have 152.5 mains, pilot 50, Float Height (mm) 22.3+/-2,Pilot Air Jet 0.8,needle @ 2..

piot screws 2 out from seat

Thanks daman. Everything is stock except main at 146.3. I put a new oring in and put the sled back togther with the 146.3 main. I was going to use the 2 main's of my spare cabs but they need a really good cleaning. I am just going to buy new main's at 152.5 and install and see how it runs. Do you think it will be a problem running the sled until I get the new main's. Again thanks so much for the help.

just keep an eye on plug color, with the warm temps should be ok, try it and watch the plugs. thats a big step down from stock, careful
