I have gone through a few posts about running bender triples pipes on the red head motor.
I am running these pipes on my MM700. I am having issues with the low end. I thought I could straighten it out with some remote fuel screw adjusters. No luck.
My carbs are as follows:
150's straight across
needles are 1/2 up from stock
50 pilots
stock air jet
My air box is gutted
My clutching is great. I have no issues there that I know of. Engagement and shift out are where they should be. Back shift etc are all good. I can't for the life of me get this thing to behave properly down low. It just doesn't want to come down on the idle unless I choke it.
If I go to 2-1/4 turns out it will eventually come down after about 20 seconds but is real burbly when I start to give it throttle. It runs well if I am at 1-1/2 turns out but then the idle won't come down at all unless I choke it. I have been in these carbs way too many times with no success.
I am starting to think maybe I have the wrong air/pilot jet setup.
Any thoughts on this?

You probably need to go to 52.5 pilots at least. I have a set I'd sell you cheap if you want them too.

That's the problem...Do I go bigger or smaller on the pilots? Bigger is richer but the higher you go in elevation, the fatter you go on the pilot...

Well if you have to turn the pilot/fuel screws out that far to get it to idle down they're too small. What elevation are you at?

When I turn them that far out (2-1/4) it is real burbly when 1/4 or lower on the throttle, which is telling me it is loading up (EGT confirms). If I am at 1-1/2 turns out it runs good when I am on the fuel but it won't idle down.

When was the last time the carbs were completely disassembled and cleaned? It is possible that you can clean the carbs and still have buildup or gunk in the pilot circuit between the fuel screw and the outlet into the airstream, or your pilots weren't cleaned well enough internally. Some people just throw their jets into a cleaning solution and let them sit then wipe them off and reinstall them, this is not the proper method in my book. I soak'em Then poke a small diameter wire thru then blow them out. This will mostlikely cure your problem..
Has this sled acted up this way since installing the pipes or did it just start doing it?

Carbs are clean as a whistle. Soaked, poked, and blown. That was my first thought. I put up with it last season cause we had good snow, and it ran fine after 5500rpm but now that I have time to work on it instead of riding, I am tryin to sort it out. As you can nsee, no luck so far.

I am having the same kind of issues as you are.Going up in pilot size and still have my bogging.Takes about 10 seconds or so for my idle to come down.If I feather the throttle and then pin it,it screams all the way to the top.We just have to keep turning out them screw and/or go to the next size pilots.I know it is a pain, but once we get it,we are set.Getting there just sucks!!!!

Doug; if your idle is hanging up your lean in the pilot circuit. Hit the choke 1/2 to bring idles down & then pin it as choke adds fuel to take away the lean condition.

Mike you owe me...lol

Just a thought if your idle is hanging...I couldn't get rid of the idle hang in my viper no matter what I tried, carbs were thoroughly cleaned several times, fuel screws adjusted in and out, idle speed was set correctly, and later (too late) found out I had an air leak and burned down the mag cylinder.

it always acts up when it is snowing out, don't you know that Mike...lol.
My screen starts to go fuzzy and that means snow is falling and I have to run out now and get on my SRX and go for a boot Bob,sorry I mean Mike.

I have a simple solution to ending this bog.I'll tie a string from the choke lever to my helmet.I'll just flick my head back as I pin it.That way I won't have to take my hand off the handle bar every time ....lol

RTY,I can still get my idle down either with the choke or it will go down in about 15 seconds. You said yours would never go down no matter what you did.Two different situations here.

Mine will come down as well with the choke or 2-1/4 turns out and 20 seconds. I am going to try Turk's recommendation of returning my air box to stock and see what happens.

Put your needles back to stock and increase the pilot. Fuel screw to 1 3/4 turns out. Stock airbox.

So everything is worked out on the idle hang issue.
Now I seem to have gremlin running around under my hood.
It started on the PTO and now it is on the Mag side. SLed will go from running perfect to crap in a matter of seconds and back. It's looking like electrical. The only problem is it's floating from PTO to MAG. The cylinders cut out intermitently.
When I pull the plug it is wet. Not rich and flacky but wet. While the other 2 plugs are perfect.
What the heck is going on here?
