shocks
My wife has a 97 Vmax 500 with an 01 SXR skid under it. The previous owner put the entire skid in but did not just change shocks. It has been fun setting her suspension up after his set up for 300lb rider and adjusting to her 140 lb! He need the extra stiffness! Anyway I know many skids will work and you can find them here. Good luck. Blue

They'll work - you need to get different control rods and limiter straps if I remember correctly.

will work just need a set of long travel radius rods and a set of longer limiter straps. everything else is the same.

Are the radius rods different?
As soon as the garage warms up I'll be doing my back up sx 600 tonight, did my srx 700 on both ends a month ago, huge difference over stock on the bumpy trails. Using the 02 viper rear shocks that were in my srx(upgraded to Ohlin rear and brand new kyb center) to put in the sx.
After some checking and measuring it looks like I should be able to also use the viper front shocks I have. Just need to remove the upper stock shock bracket and add a couple of washer as spacers on each side and bolt it directly to where the upper bracket was mounted.
mounting it this way allows the shock to sit further up in the chassis by a few inches than the stock shock did, so there should be no need to change anything else out.
The 97 sx 600 has the long transfer rods, same as the 98 srx, so just need to put the thinner washer on and change out the oem limiter straps to the viper.
