89 exciter crankcase seal replacement

I am trying to loacte some documentation on how to replace the crankseals on my exciter. Never done one before so I am up for the challenge. Also how to put the case back to gether torque requirements and tightneing pattern etc . If anyone hase something it would be greatly appreciated.

Well to change the seals you need to split the case. This should be what you need. Plus when you put the case back together use a gasket sealer, DO NOT use silicone.

Looking at the pictures here of the seals can anyone tell if they need changing or at least offer an opinion.

You can ask questions here on subjects like this and you will get answers. I'm not saying you shouldn't ask them but I will say that you would be doing yourself a big favor to get a service manual for you're Exciter. It will be an invaluable help when tackling a job like this for the first time. It is always much easier to do things like this with the info right in your hands. You will be much less likely to make mistakes and you can always ask here on something you don't understand. And yes I would change those seals they look like the rubber is seperating.

Opsled Thanks for the feedback and I fully agree on your statment about the manual . Not much of a reader though and this is my 2007/08 project. Its something I like to do in the garage for relaxation (from the kids) and yes I will most likey make mistakes but that is how I learn (I am stuborn). Thanks for your opinion on the seals as well.

they do have some oil and if you are rebuilding it would be worth it. I am doing mine over the summer and might even go to a 600 Vmax engine
