Track Replacement on an SX Chasis

I have been told in the past that the pro action chassis will take up to a 1 inch track without going to a smaller size driver. I am a little confused. I have seen tracks advertised as a 1 inch and sometimes the 1 inch is a 1 inch lug height, and sometimes the 1 inch is measured with the thickness of the track included. I do run studs and would like to install the tallest lugs possible and not have to change the drivers. I currently have a 3/4 inch lug height track on with studs, and would like to install a 1 inch lug height with studs.

Could someone please be a little more specific with this topic and clarify this for me?

Yes running studs you can comfortably fit a 1" lug track with studs. 1.25" track will sometimes work with studs but is tight and normally you're required to drop a tooth on the drivers. You will be fine with a 1" lug.
 
Thanks! By lug height you are saying 1 inch high lug measuring from the outside of the track, with the thickness of the track itself not included correct? Sorry to sound ignorant, but the more people I talk to, I think allot of people are confused by this. I am a little cautious about this because I bought a 1 inch track on hear last year, and I also questioned it, and was assured that it was a 1 inch track, and when it arrived it was a 3/4 inch lug height. Now that track has some nice tears in the outside edge. Not as good of a buy as it seemed to be.
 
well, anyone that should be allowed to sell a track should know that the lug height, not including the track itself is what should be measured, and how it should be advertised.

sometimes there is no such thing as a stupid question, esp if the person you are talking to does not ahve a clue.

When I bought my .92" skidoo track for my Venture (it had a .51" lug track factory) I had to ask stupid questions otherwise the guy was telling me the track was close to 1.25" tall. I informed him that tracks are only measured by actual protruding lug height. I verified what he really was selling by getting the exact model and year of the sled, then going onto woody's and stud boy's sites to look up what lug height it really was.

that said, yes, with the stock 9 tooth drivers, you can easily run a .92 lug height track and studs that reach almost 1.25"

If you had a 1.25" lug track, and studs, you would definitely need 8t drivers.
 
You can run up to a 1.5" lug track with 9 tooth drivers, you could also run 1.25 with studs, but I wouldn't recommend it.
 
Get the iceripper from camoplast 1in. They are the best topend speed tracks.. What i have on my and wow what a diffence
 
You can run up to a 1.75in track with stock drivers but thats with all the protectors removed and obviously no studs. Im running a 1.25in Predator non studded on my Viper and love it. Works great on or off the trail. I also have a 1in Predator with a 144 1.175 studs waiting to be put on my SRX. For performance and durability from what Ive read the Predator tops them all.

Thanks for all the info. I am trying to find a good used 1 inch predator, because I believe that is one of the better all condition track, and want to put 144 studs in it. I don't really want to go through all the trouble of changing the drivers. I ride groomed trails, and when you start out the day it is usually hard packed, which the ripper tracks are great for, but they get churned up pretty quick, and then you are riding mostly loose stuff. I think that is where the predator, not the one with the knobs, would be a better track. I hear you about you should know the lug height should be measured, I guess some people want you to think that they have something better than they really do. This is the risk of buying used stuff on line.
 
i,m looking at a totally stock 2002 vmax 600 er with a stock 1inch track that needs to be replaced (2broken studds and 1pulled out nickel sized hole ) i found a good low mileage 569 miles no studds ripsaw 1.25 will this track fit with no problems ? and another thing to ask how hard is to swap tracks for a first timer?? any tips or pics of actual work in progress
 
im running a 1 1/2 lug track on my sx 700 with out studs i will never run studs again bad experience with studs on 2 of our sleds
 
I installed a 1 1/4" predetor track on my '02 sxr. I put 144 studs in it. Wouldn't do it again. You have keep your track tight or it cuts into your tunnel. The Perdetor is an Awsome track for hardpack! I took the studs out and put it on my 99 Vmax. Then put a 1" predetor on with 192 studs. With racing carbides and a touring sway bar, she would turn on a dime out on the lake.

I wouldn't stud anything for trail use anymore. Not unless you get plenty of snow. Too much maintainance.

Just took a picked 3/4 track off my 98 700SX. Then i patched the 4x6 inch hole in the tunnel under the gas tank. Dont go too big.

I personally would not run a sled on the trials with no studs.

there are too many icy corners and hills where I ride. it is plain scary without studs when it gets icy.
 
WOW that is ugly!!! I am running a 3/4 inch track right now with 144 studs with no problems. I agree with horkn, I ride trails that tend to ice up, and it is pretty scary when you come into a corner and hit a patch of ice, and the sled takes off on you. I guess it would all depend on what you are riding on for trail conditions. another thing is when you come up on a hill that is covered with ice, you don't have to give yourself a heart attack pulling the sleds up the icy hills.
 
I may pick this track later. I think the old track had too long of picks. I was going to say I dont have this problem on my Vmax 600 with picks but I havent pulled the skid out of it to check yet. I guess if I dont see a problem than I dont have one right? LOL
