how good are the composite roller secondaries from pioneer performance? how good are roller secondaries in general? are they worth the money? can you really feel a difference?
 
If your looking into a roller secondary here is some advice from someone that has used em since 1996.
You want steel roller contacting a steel helix. A plastic roller will get hot upshifting & backshifting back & forth. This will cause the roller to slow down(gets sticky) & lose efficiency.
A steel on steel roller system remains the same no matter how hot it gets.

Do you think a plastic puck riding on an aluminum ramp( non-roller system) will be as effecient? Especially after things get real hot after some aggressive up & downshifts?
 
your question will surely open a passionate debate. roller secondarys are either hated or loved,,,,no middle ground.

I love them and have always run one. I converted my Polaris sleds and quads to AC rollers. My 02 SRX has the HC secondary roller.

Rollers behave much differently that button clutches. They upshift way easier, therefore much stronger springs and lighter primary weights are required. This means they also backshift faster, hence making them a better trail choice. Die hard drag racers have no use for rollers and will swear that they cannot be calibrated for straight line races.

Personally, I think either clutch can be made to work very well in most conditions. So, it is simply a matter of which system you have expience with in tuning. One thing for sure, though, is that roller clutches do not go through wear items like buttons clutches. High hp Polaris sleds can eat a set of buttons in less than 2000 miles. This is 3 weekends of ride time for some sledders. And what's worse is when the buttons wear through in the middle of a ride, taking the helix out with them.
 
I love my roller it is easy to tune and smooth. you have to keep it clean and replace the rollers when they get bad.

Roller Secondary

I have used them for years and always thought it was free power. The one in the photo is a Roller Rooster. It was on a MM and really made it work well. I am using a Hi-tech on my mountain SRX. IMO it works better than the Roller Rooster. BTW, I used a Hi-tech primary cap on both sleds. Hope this helps you.

so how many brands of roller secondaries are out there? which ones seem to work the best? does anyone know how good the pioneer roller composite secondaries are? when they say composite, what is all plastic on it....the rollers? I know zero to none on these rollers, so please don't get upset with all these questions.
 
Did you do a search on roller secondaries before you posted? This has been done to death for the past 8 years. If you search before you ask most of your questions will be answered. The majoroty of these types of questions have been answered a gazillion times in the past.
 
moparrules my roller is a custom cut yamaha secondary with an artic cat roller with cat helix i had this done at micro belmont. it was lightened and made to fit the cat helixs. i also have a maxximum perf roller that is also the same.
 
sorry turk I didn't search. don't have time for it with my slow dial up here. For me its easier to post a topic with a question and then check it a day or two later and see what replys I have. I will try and do more searching in the future then.
 
the roller rooster clutches aren't to bad then? there's one on ebay right now and I was debating on purchasing it. So, you guys feel the hi-tech is better? do the roller roosters and the hi-tech's have steel rollers or plastic rollers? which ones last longer? I tried searching and didn't find much info on roller clutches.
 
I have a roller rooster on my 2000 srx and let me tell you , if you want an animal of a sled in the tight twisties this secondary works awsome ! 400 miles on our 2 day trip and neither the sled or the clutches missed a beat. I would also like to add that i am a pretty agressive trail rider. This thing felt like a slot car on rails. Probably the best groomed trail sled i have ever ridden period !!
 
so, I should buy that roller rooster clutch off of ebay then? how well would it work on my aaen piped viper? are helixs and parts still readily available for the roller rooster?
 
If you buy a roller rooster a helix about a 41/31 would work well.
 
What about the Magnum Powershift upgrade made by Hauck Performance??? does anyone have any experience with that roller??? It says it requires machining to install it.
 
I had a roller rooster on my 99 srx that was very smooth for trail riding and had great backshift. I couldn't dragrace with my setup because it shifted too fast for a good holeshot.
