I just installed 1.5" Camo paddle track on my 2002 Viper. The performance is amazing. I started with the track loose and then tighten it up to eliminate racheting. Throughout the weekend I continued to tightened it to get rid of some tunnel slap that was occurring when going through the bumps.

I was never able to completely eliminate it. The track is pretty tight now and don't really want to go any tighter.

Any ideas?
Can suspension adjustment help with this?
What about drop brackets?

THANKS

Let it slap

You've got all the tunnel protectors taken out, right? If so, let it slap. Won't hurt a thing! In fact, loosten it back up a little.

Protectors are gone

It's really annoying. If I loosen it up, it slaps the tunnel even when I don't go over the bumps. I'm not sure if I can get over it.

It hits more when I let off the throttle and the track isn't under load. Do you think firming up the suspension adjustment may help? Any experience with drop brackets?

THANKS

I have my suspension set to the loosest recommended by Yamaha for the softest ride since I'm light (150 lbs.) and mine doesn't do this.

Or at least I don't think it does.

Mine is pretty loos also, I'm only 180 lbs. No slap. Maybe your suspension needs some adjustment, Are your shocks in good shape??

I am 175lbs. The sled only has 2200 miles and I doubt the shocks are worn out yet.

I don't have a manual, I guess I should invest in one. The suspension seems to react well for my weight, however, I have never adjusted it. The guy I bought it off was about my size and I never felt a reason to mess with it.

Any sites or information that would give me a starting point for shock adjustment, strap length, etc.

Thanks

Tunnel Slap

I wanted to resurrect this thread. The season is right around the corner and I was unable to get rid of the tunnel slap last year. When I lay off the throttle in the bumps it slaps pretty good. Probably not doing any harm, just annoying. The only thing I haven't messed with is the limiter strap lengths.

Any ideas

look at the center bolts on the skid to tunnel mount, the one with just the crosshaft and the 2 small bogies. if you redrill some new holes and drop this mount point down, in your case about 1/2", the slap should go away. look at it this way, if all is the same, less lug height, your sqeezing at that mount point the addition of the lug. as the track comes up and over the rear wheels, its being force fed into the tunnel at that mount, designed for a shorter lug track.

I would investigate into the condition of your shocks,,, does not matter how many miles are on it, they are close to nine years old......

X2

May not be related to your issue, but IMHO the shocks are over due for an over-haul.
