Rev XP impressions

I wanted to post this where it would get the most view.These comments aren't mine they come from a bud who went sledding last weekend with a couple of friends one with a new XP.First impressions were they are cheap looking,no real substance to the sled.He says I guess they had to get rid of 50lbs somehow.The guy blew a belt on this new XP and apparently it damaged or bent something so he's in for some down time to get it fixed.My friend with the SRX had a flawless weekend but from what I can gather the XP was nothing but troubled and the sled is from what I was told "for sale".BRP may sell quite a few of these but how many are going to stay together?

That's the first thing I have ever really heard about these sleds, positive or negative. Everyone has a bad experience from time to time, no matter what they ride. I thought the REV's were cheap anf flimsy......hell, I have three buddies with rev's that are basically junk because the front ends are twisted like pretzel. Now the XP's are 50lbs lighter? I don't care how well somthing is engineered, you can only make it so light before it gets weak! It's a shame to see someone spend that kind of $$ and have a bad experience.

I parked beside one the other day with my viper. The xp looks like a cheep toy compared to the viper. Doesn't look very strong. The owner said it was hard to get used to because of the front end alway's off the ground. He said he could cary the ski's at any speed. Over all he has had no problems with it and really likes it though. It sounds pretty good with the aftermarket can he has on there. I'd really like to take one for a ride, but i don't think i would buy one.
 
I never thought I'd like Ski doo until I bought a Rev for my wife. WOW. That handles like a dream. I'm putting a ski doo skid in my viper. We raced in a field here that had alot of whoops and she kicked my butt. The XP's seem weak to me. I've sat on them at a dealer here in NY. Running boards flex alot. So do the handle bars. I will say 150HP on a 430lb frame get's me excited though. I wish Yamaha could come close to the ski doo skids. :o| :o|
 
the weight to HP ratio is impressive. The stelth cut will take some getting use to.
I think they will be a fast machine and will probably do well on the trails
 
I didn't think the running boards were weak but I only weigh 170 pounds too. If I was buying one I'd be more worried about the motor than the chassis. The '07 Summit 800R motors did not have a good year. BRP said it was fixed for '08. Guess what, they still have the same issues as last year. They refuse to fix the problem or acknowledge that there is a problem. Not to mention the belt/clutching issues on the Summit models. If they would make a motor that was reliable I would consider buying one. The chassis fits me pretty good.
 
Well I just sold my MXZ600HO and I thought it was a nice riding sled.... However, This weekend we had a BIG derby and there was at least three Doos go down with crank bearings. Until BRP designs a crankcase properly, with steel caged bearings, and uses the injector oil to lube the bearing instead of some "magic grease" which gets washed out when the plastic bearing seal melts, I will never consider buying another one. I don't care how light it is (it's still too heavy to carry back!!).

thats the way I look at them.
but I seriously question the XP's chassis durabilty.

Only time will tell.

for a trail sled, they need a lot more wind protection. the stock screen is basically useless says supertraxx, and I can't imagine it would do anything just looking at it. the body is so minimalist that I can't imagine there to be much wind protection for the lower body. Even on the rev based GTX, (btw the rev makes a horrible 2 up chassis- I rented one and hated 2 up on it, while riding it 1 up was nice) they added wind deflectors to the cowling. The fan cooled 550 2up I rented did not have these deflectors and was a bit windy, but the seating configuration was the real issue on the rev based 2 up. It was totally foreign for 2 up use. The passenger was so far away from the driver, and the passenger grips are horrible, and still the same on the 07 GTX. The "legend" chassis with the trailing arms was a much better 2 up platform with the same underpowered 550 fan.

ef - Is that the isoflex grease that is suppose to fix the bearing? Lost one on a 700 doo twin and that was supposedly the fix. My #1 problem with doo is there sort their returns in the field. Doo Sucks that way!

I rode one the other day, the TNT. I was pretty impressed with the power to weight ratio. Even for a 600 the skis liked to come off the ground. I'm only 5'10" and I couldn't get real comfortable (probably not enough seat time), but I was able to get comfy no matter where I sat on a new Nytro. I could throw the sled around pretty easy in the corners, but it felt like the chassis had a lot of flex in it. I wasn't real comfortable with that coming from my sled. I hope they do well with this (being lightweight), it'll drive other companies to do the same. But at the same time I believe they might of gone too far. I know they used a lot of their design programs they use with their business jets in design, but it's a totally different scenario from a plane to a sled.

power to weight doesnt always equate to speed or accelleration in real life.

this is something i posted last week.

last nights ride we had demo attack, demo nitro, F7, xp8 and of course the superventure.
on the way back down the rail bed, brent and i (both morbidly obese) were switching off from the attack to the xp8. if i was on the xp we were even, everywhere, who ever got the jump they were locked together. when brent was on the xp8, i could go by him by a little every time. i weigh 20lbs less than brent.

i am amazed that both sleds have 150 claimed hp, the xp had miles on it, the attack was new and weighs about 100lbs heavier and still was as fast, as quick to the speed.

i will say the xp was a step up from old revs, rode great, handled, well, like a rev, or a nitro, kinda gittery. the attack is deffinately the better trail sled for putting on the miles. im sure for goat trail riding all day, the lighter sled would be nicer at the end of the day.

sorry we never got to top speed, brent just wouldnt hold it wide open, he has issues, he is getting old you know.
 
My mechanic told me today that he loves his 08 Renagade 800 Xp.It is fast and really handles the bumps well he said.He has had no issues so far except for a sending unit and he has told me he has had it up to a tad under 200 km's per hour.So they are fast.If he hits those speeds,my SRX will not keep up with him then.Will probably be even from 0-100 mph and then he will take me out on top speed..that sucks.And there is only about a 5 HP difference between the two slds.I am a tad dissapointed in my SRX's top speed being on the low side.
 
Trust me, that 800R will not take an srx on top end. Getting there may be a bit of a different story if you don't have good traction. I also demo'd a RevXP 600 E-TEC two weekends ago, the first one in the state to do so according to the dealer. The chassis felt great. I loved how it fit me and thought it was quite comfortable. The thing had 4 miles on it when I got on it though, and I did not like the feel of the engine. It vibrated a ton, was loud, and didn't have any "punch" whatsoever. Maybe it was a traction issue, but the thing just didn't seem to pull very well. As for the suspension, maybe it just wasn't broken in, but I beat it pretty damn hard through some 1-2 foot moguls and the suspension hardly moved. The FXNytro RTX I rode earlier that day took the moguls MUCH more confidently. However, with a setup suspension that XP could be a real animal in a chopped up trail. I would like to ride one with a thousand or so miles on it to get a better opinion.
 
We spent 5 days around Gogebic and up towards Houghton two weeks ago. We saw many of the new 800 running around. The black ones are ugly. The yellow ones don't look bad.
I talked to a guy last Sunday that has one with only a few hundred miles on it and he said he hated it. He was riding a 2002 Polaris 800 and left his new doo in the trailer. He said someone else would own it before the end of winter.
I pressed him to find out why he didn't like it but, I didn't get any real good answer.
 
My boss and a few of his riding buddies went to quebec for a big 1,500 km loop... they've tried it a few times (they still haven't completed due to breakdowns). I know at least two of them have the new 08 xp's and I guess one xp broke the driveshaft which is a very common problem by the sounds of it. Boss thinks his is almost ready to go too. And it has developed a major coolant leak.. the driveshafts are already backordered according to one dealer in Quebec. I guess besides those two issues, he likes the sled, but is strongly considering buying a 2007 renegade and just waiting until doo irons out the problems with the xp.

I hope this isn't some kind of warning to me of what i'm getting in to. I just bought a bare rev chassis for an off trail/bump sled buildup... going to get it next weekend.
