Thanks for the cheap fix on my overrev problem,Turk. Now 8500 rpm "all day long".I ride pretty aggressively in tight bush trails for the most part. After hard on the binders for a tight turn, when I get back in it the throttle the revs come up but seems the sled needs a lower gear ratio or somethig. It just doesn't seem to propel forward as hard as it should. Is this something that can be rectified by altering the backshift characteristics with the stock secondary clutch or am I expecting something from a 600 that ain't there? The sled has reed spacers and I will be doing the headgasket/can mod.

Tree Man,

your not going to get what you want for backshifting out of the stock clutch, spring and helix.
Go to the tech page and find Turk's setups for your sled. Use the aggressive setup for your riding style as it is like mine and I used the aggressive setup to get teh backshifting needed. I have a '99 SX600. With Turk's setup it is night and day different from stock.

Just bear with me.It has stock spring in stock locating holes. To get 80 degrees what holes do I use?Novice to clutch tinkering.Prior to this sled I had a Wildcat and rode the old girl to it's grave.NEVER did any clutch tuning;just fixed crank, rods, bearings, pistons, water pumps, oil pumps,etc.,etc.,etc. multiple times plus it rode like a sheet of plywood which was a nice bonus to go with all the wrenchin'!It finally grenaded and left me stranded for the last time.I cremated it.However;I'd like to try this extra wrap this weekend and then look at upgrading the clutch after.Thanks.

To get 80 degrees, the spring should be place in the holes 2 and 6. To figure out the degrees wrap, just add the two numbers the spring is located and multiply by ten.

One last thing. Are the helix, springs, gears listed in the tech page available aftermarket or yamaha only? Will stock chain cover the taller gearing?Approx price? Thanks again for the input.Appreciate it.

What track do you have on the sled.My SX600R has a 1 1/4 ripsaw and geared it down on top.I have 8Dn-20 weights,3.6 in both holes,51/43 helix wrapped at 80.It really launches good, raising the ski's on a good packed base and pulls like a frieght train.Runs to 8500 at wot.I love this sled for ditch banging.Top end is about 90 mph now, have well over 10,000 km's on it,but she keeps ticking.

just remember a twin set up is different than a tripple set up.I've got a 97 sx 600 twin seem to hold a good rpm when up shifting about 8000.would putting in a multi angle 51/43 shift it much harder/
