I can't tell if my cable has pulled thrugh or not as its unclear to me what everyone means by 'pulled through' and whether its extremely obvious.

I just opened up my 1st power valve and the valve would not move!!! As I pulled on the housing, I could hear the servo unwind a bit so it now has a lot more play than when I started. I eventually got the valve out with some careful prying but before reinstalling after cleaniong I want to be sure I dont have a so called pull through. Also, I assume should remove the cover from the solenoid and remove the excessive play before reinstalling.

I cleaned the same power valves about 1500 miles ago, cant believe how bad they are now. Amsoil interceptor religously.

it will pull the cable end out of the back of the valve due to the cable sticking. If your valve will not move you might need to take a pair of pliers and gently pull it out and then give it a good cleaning. If you heard the servo move then chances are the valve is still okay and you caught it in time. Usually you need to clean them once or twice a year depending on the mileage you ride.

To take the slack out do what you are planning to, just remove the cover and gently wind the servo back and you should be good to go.

Check adjustment afterwards as this is a big cause of a valve pull through. lol i had one last year and it was my own dam fault i had it adjusted to tight.

If you split the two housings you can take the cable out of the end of the valve. This also makes for easier cleaning having just the valve by itself. If the powervalves are pulled through it is painfully obvious. If you can't pull the valve out with both housings still together then you haven't pulled the valve through yet, but it's best to split the housings and see for yourself what condition the cable end of the valve is in.

Like the others have said you'll know it when you have a pulled valve,
the cable will be off the valve and there will be a hole in the end of the
valve instead if a slit.

all depends on the type of driving, oil usage, jetting, as to how clean or
dirty P/V's get,an oil alone can't keep valves spotless, but will help..

in 1,500 miles i would have clean them twice if it was mine, valves are
just to expensive not too..

I had the same experience with Interceptor. Pay $30 a gallon and they are just as nasty as with Yamalube. No BS just my experience

Power Valves

Hey Guys.

Guess what, just opened the middle power valve, and as everyone has mentioned, it is quite obvious, the cable has pulled through. : (

Need to look at some other posts about repairing the valve now instead of buying a new one.

valve

Hey Mopar,

Ive seen your work and on this site would consider it if I had more time. Heading out fri. morning for a trip.

Final count was 2 very stuck power valves and one broken one. Considering I just pulled the stock track tonight as well, I think next weekend with the new predator track and functional power valves should make the sled a little stronger. : )

Thanks for your help everyone.

If the cable is pulled through the end of the power valve you have an issue. There is no need for pictures

why doesnt yamaha put a steel insert in the valve? oh never mind they wouldnt sell a ton of valves when they go bad!!!!!!!

I guess I should look at #2 and 3 now..... I just bought the thing too.

#2 is pulled through, and #3 was hard to get the cable out of, so I bet that one is not too good either! :o|
