76/77 srx piston argument (TONY HELP)

Tony,
I need your help bud. I bought four Weisco pistons that where suppose to be for my 77 srx. The guy sends me L ring pistons and says that that's what the sold for the 77 srx's. I'm out $410. He doesn't know the difference between the flat ring wiesco and the L ring. When you put them side by side you can clearly see about 1mm lower the the flat ring piston. The L ring piston is machined out on top for the L ring and this throws the ex port off. I bought a lot of srx stuff from this guy. I can't believe he thinks these will work in a srx. The piston was made for a lot of different motors. I E mailed Leon to see if he will talk some sense into this guy. I know you know who I'm talking about. I won't post he's name right now. Remember the track he sold me. I got my money back on that. Home made alunium cleats..... I'm a little upset right now. Does eveyone here know what I'm talking about? Or I'm I just going crazy. The Pistons Are Wiseco 2222 Ps Brand New In The Box. This Is The Correct Part Number For 76-77 Srx 440 Only. The Only Part Number Wiseco Ever Had For A 76-77 Srx 440 . I Sold You What Wiseco Sells For That Model Sled So I Am Not Affraid To Put My Name Out There. Jeff Wurl
 
By The Way, You Are Out Less Than $400.00 For Two Sets Of Pistons. (4 Pistons Total) List Them Back On Ebay And Get You Money Back. There Is Plenty Of People Out There That Would Like To Have Those Pistons. Resell Them And Stop Bitching. You Will Not Be Out Anything In The End. I Have Those Same Pistons Running In My Srx Right Now!!!!!! You Saw The Pictures On Ebay And You Knew They Were Aftermarket. If You Did Not Like Them, You Should Not Have Bid On Them!!! I KNOW ITS TUFF TO FIND ORIGINAL YAMAHA SRX PISTONS ESPECIALLY FOR A 77 SRX. I DO KNOW THERE WAS A DEFFERENCE IN THSES RINGS AND THE YAMAHA OEM WERE NOT THE SAME. THE 76 SRX RING WAS FLAT AND MORE LIKE WHAT WAS USED IN A GPX. 77 SRX RING WAS SIMILAR TO THE 78-79-80 SRX THAT SLIGHTLY DOMED DOWNWARD. I HONESTLY DON,T REMEMBER WHAT WIESCO USED. I NEVER USED THEM TO SAY. ANYWAYS JWURL, WHY DON,T YOU JUST REFUND HIM HIS MONEY AND LET HIM RETURN THE PISTONS TO YA. HE IS UNHAPPY HERE WITH THIS STUFF SO ITS A NO BRAINER. I had bought a set of Wiesco pistons from a guy on Ebay. They where from the mold 2222. That's stamped inside the piston. Wiesco used these piston for different motors. They machined out things different ways. I had a set that had the skirts cut out as an oval for a reed motor. Now you send me a set with longer skirts and machined out for a L ring. What I'm trying to say to you is that Wiesco made a replacement piston for the SRX with a flat ring and shorter skirts. You can't put a flat ring on the pistons you sent me because they where machinded out for a L ring. I bought a set of these Wiesco pistons from Leon Koch. These where the replacement pistons from Wiesco. 2222PS. The ones you sent me are not 2222PS. That number was hand written on the boxes. There is a number stamped on the box 2280PS. These pistons where made for a different motor. You can't use the L ring piston in a srx because it changes the EX port timming. They cut the top of the piston dome to except the L ring. Now the piston edge is lower. That will raise the Ex port. Then the skirts are to long. What? Do you thing Wiesco wanted everyone to cut the skirts before using them? By the way one ways cut and the other three were'nt. Call Leon Koch and ask him. I know he'll tell you the same thing. Yes Wiesco made a replacement piston for the 76/77 srx but the ones you sold me are not them...I'm sure the motor will run but not very good. That's after you cut the skirts. I would like my money back. If not send me four 2222PS weisco pistons. Dean Getti
 
I feel sorry for the guys that bought those other pistons on Ebay. The motor won't perform very well with those pistons. Unless they happen to be 2222ps. They have the flat ring. The L ring is now the top edge of the piston becuse the piston was machined out, about 1mm lower then the flat ring piston, which uses the top of the piston dome for port timming. Any engine builder will tell you. Joe Dispardo from the former Cycle Dyne was the one that explined this to me. He is now set up at Sports Unlimited in Utica, N.Y. Call him if you like. I still can't believe Jeff thinks that these L ring pistons where for the 76/77 srx's. Dean
 
I would have had no problem sending you your money back if it was within a reasonable amount of time. Just like when you were unhappy with the track. You bought. You got it, you contacted me, you returned, you got your money back. All done within a weeks time. I can not and will not refund your money when it has been close to two months later. As for the pistons, i can only go by what the Wiseco catalog says. 2222PS == 76-77 SRX 440. We all know Wisecos are not the best choice for a 77 SRX. You use them in a pinch when you can not find originals. You should have bought my set of original 77 NOS pistons that sold for almost $500.00 without rings if you wanted an exact piston. There is a reason why Wisecos are $190.00 shipped a pair and an original single Yamaha piston without ring is the same price. Thanks, Jeff Wurl
 
EXACTLY, THATS THE DEFFERENCE BETWEEN WHAT WORKS IN YOUR MOTOR AND JUNK. YOU GUYS ARE SUPPOSE TO BE SRX GRURU,s SCREWING AROUND WITH WIESCO IN A 77 SRX ? I WOULD LET THE MOTOR SIT ON THE BENCH BEFORE I RUN THOSE. !! 3:16 (yammie tony)

I have used Wiseco pistons in a lot of applications and they work great if installed properly. They are a major piston supplier to ALL types of racing. Just my 2 cents but I can tell you don't need it or want it.

Ebay and PayPal will get me $210 back. I trusted you when I bought these pistons and really didn't even look closely at them until I installed one in a cylinder with the flat rings that you gave me with the piston that had the skirt cut. I noticed I could still see the ring hanging off the sides of the piston. That's when I knew something was wrong. I trusted you and now I know you can't be trusted. I'm out over $400 and it sucks to be me. I'll never buy anything from you again. I can't sell these as srx pistons. I won't cheat other people like you cheated me. These are not 2222PS pistons and you know it. If anyone knows what these pistons go to please tell me so I can sell them for what they are. Yes they are made from the cast 2222,but where machined on top to except the L ring and the skirts are longer then the 2222PS pistons that where made for the 76/77 srx. Jeff, Did you ever call Leon? He has the 2222PS pistons for sale. I tried calling him last night. I'll try again today. I know I can trust him. I bought pistons from him before. Yes they where the Wiesco 2222PS and had shorter skirts with a flat ring. The ones yopu sent me look nothing like the ones Leon Koch sells. Tony, This is not an argument over what pistons are better, It's about selling somthing that's not what he says it was. Thanks Dean
 
This Is The Last Post I Am Going To Put On Here. The Part Number Is Cast Right Inside Of The Piston #2222. If These Are The Wrong Pistons, As You State, Take It Up With Wiseco For Casting The Wrong Part Number In Them And Boxing Them Wrong. Jeff Wurl

Just because you write on the boxes 2222PS dosn't make them 2222PS. Your worst then I originally thought....
 
No problem. I'll also bring the 2222PS pistons in the box that's typed in 2222PS that they came in and the box that yours came in 2280PS with 2222PS hand written on them. Then we can compare the differences of both pistons with both having the castings stamped 2222. This should be very interesting, or should I say educational. Dean
 
You've got me thinking. I know the Sno Twister came with L rings and then went to rail rings but I can't remember if the '76 SRX did. They had 3-4 piston designs for that sled including the final update of using the '77. I don't agree that the designs vary the exhaust port timing though. I don't think it would have a significant affect. L Rings had way more drag and fatigued faster. I think those units are still valuable but definately not what you thought you were buying.

Jeff, you have been doing this a long time and know exactly what was taking place. You would actually be considered and expert about this to many people and should have mentioned it to Dean since you guys know each other. That is my opinion and wouldn't have given it if I wasn't asked.
 
76/77 pistons and rings

I am looking at an old Wiseco catalog, and the correct piston that it calls for is 2222ps and the ring part # is 2697csm (.039") or 2697cs if it is a sleeved cyl. 18mm wrist pin (1976 and 1977) The "s" after the "p" is for standard bore

The # 2282ps is for 78-80 20mm wrist pin. Same ring #
The # 2280ps was replaced by the 2222ps as stated in the Wiseco cat.

Where they L rings? Did you have to cut the skirts? I'm tried of this. I quiet. Jeff you can keep the $420. I'll post them on Ebay by size and type on ring pistons they are. I'm not going to tell everyone that they are for a srx. They can decide what they want to put them in. I had about 30 of those 2222PS Wiesco pistons for many different srx's that I had owned sence the 80's. Never had this problem and thay always fit and looked like the Yamaha pistons. Hell I even ran Yamaha rings on one sled with the Wiesco piston. Jeff, I'm giving up. You win. I'm to old and have to many Health problems to continue. I'll let Ebay and Paypal know to drop everything. This is my last post here. Dean
