well I decided it would be fun to poke some holes in my front exchanger. so now I must replace it. I looked all through ronnies microfiche and couldn't find the part number. Anyone know the part #? 98 XT700
thanks shawn

How bad is it chewed? If it doesn't look like crumpled tin foil it can be welded..T

Yep,,,if it's easy to get at with a welder you can pull skid/track and take
it to a welding shop and have it fixed, you do not want to chage it,big
job!!! motor needs to come out, drill rivets,etc.,etc...

I can't find it either. It should be listed under frame.

thanks guys! thought about welding it but, well uh....... it looks worse than crumpled tin foil! Its munched up REAL good. so it looks like i'm replacing it. I needed a new track anyway, so looks like I'll be doing that to. I'm gonna run a 1 in hacksaw or predator. what size studs can I use? I'd like 1 1/8 or 1 3/16, but I don't wanna have to do this job again anytime soon. what else should I replace while I have the skid out? bushings? bearings? weld w arm?anything else I should replace while it apart? the sled only has 2200 miles. Everything looks like new in there. but I wanna replace what I can/should now. maybe save me some headaches down the road.
thanks Yama for the part number!
oh btw, what type of rivet gun do I need? will a regular type work, or is there a special one I need? If so where could I find one?
Thanks! Shawn

reinforce if needed, just give it a good looking over,re-grease with a
good low temp grease.
If you pull the w arm and want it gusseted let me know, and I can tig the gussets in place for you. T

I'll get some pics up later. the studs also chewed up the front of the tunnel, about the exchanger. what about the speedo housing bearing? Is that a critical bearing for the axle to ride on? mines not frozen or anything. It just doesn't roll as smoothly as I would like.

I took min out last year, and i remeber the delay with the right angle drill. that was a huge job, no fun. i just used a regular rivit gun for the tight areas and an air rivit gun for easy places made it kinda fun.
Heat exchanger
If it looks like this one I can hook you up. $55 shipped. Let me know. The fins on the track side might be a little different as the later models had more fins but as long as the tubes on the motor side are the same you should be all set. I can provide the rivets too at 50 cents each. Not trying to steal BTV's deal if you were going to get it from him......just thought if he didn't have one and this is the right one, then it's all yours. Let me know.

Dude
Is that front heat exchanger even leaking? It doesn't look that bad to me. I've see a lot worse. I don't even see a hole?

I second that, it doesn't even look bad. If it wasn't leaking a person shouldn't replace it just cuz it "looks" bad!

i third that.....
especially a front cooler!!!!!!!!!!!JohnnyQuest said:I second that, it doesn't even look bad. If it wasn't leaking a person shouldn't replace it just cuz it "looks" bad!
looked bad enough to me! I had just filled and bled my coolant(about 5 times) one week earlier. I really didn't ride the sled much during the week. Took it out saturday night, rode about ten mins. temp light came on. shut it down. felt both under foot exchangers, right side REAL hot, left side cold. so I pulled it in the garage, pulled the rad cap. and there was no pressure or coolant in the sled. I looked around for leaks found none. looked under front of sled and the snow packed around the front heat exhanger was green! seems to be evidence enough to me it was leaking. I thought maybe a bad head gasket, but the sled is running very strong(pulled 80mph in 660' previous weekend). and also it would have been alot of coolant it was drinking if it was a bad gasket. also no smoke except for usual cold start. So I could only believe it was the front exchanger leaking. not sure. I'm gonna pressure test it later today. well see i guess!
