Stock Sled, how fast should it go?

ours only did 80 mph on a not really packed lake trail this past weekend. I think it is possible on an iced over lake to get a little more.

If you get anything more than 85 mph, you would be lucky. The low gearing of the 2 up really does it more than anything.

so I did the mph to kph conversion, and the 80mph I saw last weekend was 130 kph.

If you saw 120 kph, you are not much off from what I saw.

fwiw, I am 240 lbs myself. We do also have a low SX windshield on ours for now, so that possibly could help my case. that, and if you are over revving, that won't help, along with a trillion other variables. Mine revved just a little less than 8k, so 7800 or so rpm, where it should be.

Still Checking when I have time. But..

I had a look at the primary clutch and surfaces are smooth without buildup on them. The belt is snug (not too long for the machine) with the belt up to the top on the drive clutch, as it should be with a new belt. It must be the correct belt. Other than maybe springs or the clutch not closing entirely I don't see what else would case the slight over rev I saw. It may have stablized but I did not keep it there long (5 sec) and backed off. Too fast for me and on the road with a turn coming up. The lakes are really crap and not safe. Every weekend the local neighborough tells me and my son. About people having gone through. The last one I remember is one sled towing another and they both went through. Well after several decades of snowmobiling I know you can go over some pretty thin surfaces and areas with nothing beneath the slush if going full bore. But slow down and the fact that you're not in a boat sinks in real quick. We have stuck to trails so far. We had a mild long weekend a rain. Need a good freeze again and maybe but the currents are fast real fast.

So far the sled has been great. Rear bars not heating but that is it. I tried to pull the switch. The rubber cover would not come off. I could cut it but then the water would get in for sure. The rear rack may have to come off to get at the plugs on the same side to test for power. But not a priority. Driving is while it lasts.

Ok, feed back guys.

First, I got it up to 130kph and still pulling a road but I chickened out to ride another day, since the road was running out into a turn. Fast enough for me heh heh.

Observations:
- idle just under 2k RPM (seems quite low most other machines idle at least 3k)
- riding RPM's are 5-6k on the tach unless I start pushing it beyond 60-70 KPH but seems to regulate tight around 6k for the most part
- seem sluggish at the bottom end and quite slow to respond (this is an electron carb whatever that means), but when it does it pulls pretty good. Nothing outstanding. My Polaris (1980 340 TXL would be at the destination before this got going, a real rocket).
- tried the oxygenate mode for a weekend now back to Normal setting. The reponse is better in Normal.
- I am getting about 150+ KM to a tank of gas & about TWO litres of oil used to a tank of gas. Hmmm...

idle seems a little high but should be ok.

no one here has much faith in those carbs. some guys have had good luck with them. others is just costs them motors as the carbs leaned them out.

sounds like something is sticking in the clutch. at what rpm is the primary grabing the belt? or more basically at what rpm does the sled try and start moving?

oil consumption sounds close but i am shure daman will chime in as i only had a 500. still is close to what mine was going through.

sounds like yours (mine too) need an oil pump.

97's had issues with oil pumps throwing too much oil in the motor.

wow thats allot of oil(24:1) way too much, you should only be using
under 1 liter(.91)to a tank, gas is bad too @ 12.4km to a tank.

have you checked cable free play yet

Last few trips out i've been playing with my pump and getting it very close
to my 47-50:1 goal, unless your pump is bad,you can dial it in..

Ok, I can put it slightly differently. The oil tank as a large indent in the plastic little past half way down. After about 250km it when down to that point. It was there before I filled it for the weekend.

I don't get plugs fowling nor do I notice smoke certainly not excessively.

As for millage I am going about 40-50km more than my 94 forumula it ran out of gas at about 115km of driving. I was carrying gas in the back of the Venture so no problem.

What are the specs. How would I know if the pump had be already changed. Too little oil could terminate the motor.

Well there is no spec, just line up the two marks on the oil pump
at WOT,but unless the pump is new that will probably be to much
oil, your just going to have to run it and do your calculations and try
to get that 50:1 ratio.

fill the sled up with oil and gas,run it for say 80-95km,then re-fill with
oil and gas keeping track of how much it took to top back off then
do your calculation's on mileage and oil usage, then adjust pump
leaner or richer..

..

First I really appreciate the input.

Bear with me here. I thought that oil injection varied the mix ratio based on RPM etc. Hence the variable adjustment lever linked parallel to the cab cable positioning. At times it is leaner than 50:1 and richer when in need it.

My drive has bin in the previous references under 60kph of which may 10% above in short stretches of trail driving. 1% 80 or higher.

I'll look into a new pump for next season and this is dying out now.

Cheers

It does to a certain point,,,i'm talking overall oil usage.
