Using a good FULL sythetic oil like Amsoil's severe gear 75w90
will be FAR from mollasas when cold,it has a PP of -58deg. and a
Kinematic Viscosity of 40°C, cst, witch is in the thick range of a 30w PCMO,
thats dang good for a G/O..
thats what i like using but anything oil will work in there..just keep it changed!

not saying the oil caused it to blow up, the oil probly kept it going, I think it's the best stuff.

If I'm not riding, I'm cleaning or servicing my sled...never a wast of time for a really clean reliable sled...I still get asked is that a left over stock sled....Hum...no...just well taken care of...cheersSRX7 said:thats a waste of time. hell if tranny fluid protects our car's trannys for 3 yrs or what ever then I think it will protect a damn chain and gears for a season +.
Are we talking engine or chain case here!...mechanical failure is not always a result of poor oil or oil change cycles...parts do break, wear or just fail...its part of the fun...cheersregert said:27000+km on mine and blew up last weekend....also on amsoil...

The chain and gears in your chaincase is the same (identical) as in a Borg Warner transfer case IN A 4X4 truck. Whens the last time you changed your transfer case oil?? Another thing is the contaminates in your chaincase oil are due more to all the aluminum contact (not aluminum shavings) not the steel shavings. So I guess what I'm saying is Change that oil regularly (even in your Yamahauler ! ) and yes, I use Amsoil changed every year. If you don't believe amsoil gear oil stays thin in the cold, distract your wife and slip a quart in the freezer for a day and see how nice it pours when you take it out!
