I had cleaned the carbs on my 95 vm500 a month or so ago, and couldn't remember if there was or wasn't. however according to ronnies microfiche there is.

http://www.ronniesmailorder.com/fiche_section_detail.asp

Part number 17. 2 required. but I don't know for sure. either way its an easy job!
yea that top washer is just for the top of the needle for the slide, not a
shim washer, anyway just went and pulled the sevice man. for the '94
and it show's/talks nothing about a washer for needle pos., my '95 doesn't
have 'em either.....anyway yea no big deal.

I figured you were right. I couldn't remember if there was washers or not , when I did mine. I was just going by what I saw on the microfiche. Sorry for the confusion.

blurbing

Had a '94 also had exactly the same problem you definitely have to drop your needle I did and took care of the problem but don't remember how far I did though

ok guys ive checked the needle height and it was set at 2 or 2.5 if that little plastic washer is concidered a notch?i moved it to one and left the washers in place.i did not take it for a test run other than running on the trailer and so far it cleared up the soaked plugs.before they were black and oily and now closer to tan.still want to test run but im running out of time this week as i got to go back to work soon for 4 twelves.hopefully this morning i can take for a spin on the trailhead.

If you need to run it with the needle in the number one groove, I would look into getting the next needle down from yours and start in the number 3 spot and see how it runs. then adjust from there. or look for another problem, cause you shouldn't have to lean it out that much. have you checked for air leaks?

would not an air leak make it run lean?with that little plastic washer in there would it not in reality be on the 1.5 notch?there,s a circlip and a thin plastic washer in there.seems to run better but ive havnt had the chance to go for a good run yet.if after taking it for a good spin it goes back to running like crap at the 30 40 mph range im going to look into the main jet, though i called the dealer and he said the main is perfect for here and play with the needle.on the other hand the apex looks mighty inviting.its too bad the phazer didnt have a wider seat ,something to offer as a option YAMAHA!

I'll tell ya what. Once you get your 600 dialed in right and put a better rear suspension on it you'll be happy with it! Once I did everything I wanted to my 600 (RX1 skid, GYT twin pipes, predator track) it was like a different sled. The ride is better, the acceleration is better, the top end speed is better. As a matter of fact, myself an '05 RX1 and a '03 RX1 all went head to head and I actually had the '03 RX1 off the line for a second until he hooked up better than me and took off, at the time I still had the stock track and he was running studs, if I had better traction I would have gotten him for sure. These 600's can be quick.

sooner or later i will get it dialed in.i bought a aggressor track last year and also composite ski,s so it does handle better.if i decide to keep it i will definatly upgrade the suspension, though i must admit i havnt ridden it since i put the new kimpex gold shock on the rear and tightened the susp right down(im 225lbs).what im really looking at is retirement in 5 to 8 so i want to have a new sled ,truck,4 wheeler bought and paid for by then.opps almost forgot the most importent one a nice boat and motor as i love going fishing even if i dont catch a damn thing, lol. :rocks:

I am having this same problem on my 1995 max. i dropped the needles 1 notch, it did not seem to have any effect. I am wondering if it could be a ignition problem?? Let me know how that main jet works for ya.

ok was reading somebody elses post about ill running carbs and it was mentioned to change the needles .mine has 4000 miles on it ,how do you tell if their worn?or would they even be with that mileage?sorry to keep harping on these darn carbs but im trying to get a grip on that loading up and its starting to bug me.have a ride for easterseals coming up next week and would really like to get a handle on this soon,i hope.i will be finished work tues morning and am planning to give it a good try before the sat run.wonder if i should order the needles tomorrow?

just look at it,it should have a nice smooth tapper to it,if it's got any abnormal wear marks it should be replaced, but i have yet to replace one...

yes i did .i wasnt atall .so i moved the needle up to 1 and gave it a quick blast on the stand for 15 minutes and the plugs looked better but i really want to go up and down the trail head for say a 1/2 mile or so and see what happens to the plug color.if it still runs odd i quess a total rebuild of the carbs wouldnt hurt.are you getting the same blizzard as us up here in the soo?

ok you've checked everything but what's causing the problem emulsion tubes/needle jet's . Over time the needle from the slide opens up the hole causing it to get richer & richer . It does so slowly you start to chase other things.I had one sled so bad that when I changed the tubes I had to turn down the idle 2 !!!! turns. So take a look

well i took the sled out for a nice spin today.it has run the best it ever has !for whatever reason my sled likes the needle on the first notch,1 1/2 out on the airscrew.checked the plugs several times and they are good and no loading up,also the added benifit that it runs like a scalded cat.
