So Sunday I'm in the middle of tearing my sled apart (front heat exchanger). I pulled the chain case, and found this little piece under it. I have no clue where it came from or where it goes. Anyone have a clue?

It's possible it is the key way for the brake rotor. Doug

Looks almost like a shaft key. Is it a magnet?
brake rotor key, you are very lucky it fell out. I have had many hours of swearing at that little bugger. Maxdlx
where does it go? I never removed the brake rotor. I left the rotor and caliper assembly bolted to the chain case.
by the looks of it, it may have been down there awhile. would the brake still work without it? I've never had brake problems.

go out and hold the secondary with one hand and the rotor with the other. Move one one way and the other the other. If you can feel one in the other, it is a left over part. If they turn different directions, it goes back in. Maxdlx If you want call me tonight 563-210-6788

thank you MAXDLX and everyone else. I just went out and had a look. found where it goes. On the upper shaftjust below the coolant resevoir. looks like that'll be REAL fun to get back together.

Should be pretty easy to get in there if you already have the case out.
You are lucky many of us have spent hours getting the disk free from the rust around that key or others like it.

Next time
Next time you do this remove the disc brake along with the chain case at the same time......that way you wont have to take apart the parking brake and you will save yourself a lot of time.

i actually DIDN"T remove the caliper or brake rotor assmbly. I had read a post a month or so ago, where someone had. and someone posted It wasn't nessesary to take of the brake, so I didn't. It just fell out when I pulled the case off the two shafts. but thanks to you guys I found where it goes!
