I finally got some miles put on my viper after adding my homemade seat riser and all i have to say is...WoW! I wish i would have done this 2yrs ago when I first thought about it. The sled feels totally different and is now so comfortable to ride. It's made pretty much like what others have done on here, but instead of using the spray foam and wood concept, I used two sheets of Pink Board (insulation) and shaped it to my liking. If anyone is considering this mod, I'd say go for it.

That is great! I did my riser and after 400 plus miles I have to agree with you. The sleds like a new sled. The re-valve from Pioneer helped too.

I have an 02 Viper and my wife has 03 Viper. The 02 has the factory shock upgrade and the 03 is the non-ER with revalved shocks from Pioneer.

If $$ were no object I would be riding an "rider forward" apex or vector GT. But with 2 young kids and a stay at home mom I'm lucky to have the sleds that are in the garage...

So as an experiment on the 02 I installed a 2" handle bar riser and a seat riser in the rear. I went with a 2" up front rise tapering to a 3" rise in the rear. The gap between the seat and the tank looks dumb, but it rides like a completely different sled, it's so much more comfortable. I figured that the risers that just raised the rear of the seat would tend to force you toward the tank???

Initially my wife told me to stay away from her sled with those mods as it looks strange...then she rode it. She got off and said "it feels like this one has 6" more travel in the rear."

I think for next year I will bite the bullet and get either a boss highrise or boss flatop for the 03.

I totally agree... I plan to pickup a viper seat for my SXR and make one for it as well. I don't think the gap at the tank is really that noticeable. Mine is 2 1/8" in the front and 3 1/4" in the rear and the gap is only noticable at the base, but hardly-- the seat to the top of the gas tank looks oem.

I added 1/2 close cell foam tape to the tank and it looks good to take up the gap. Make sure you clean the tank area with peroxide pad before you stick the tape to the tank.

dcstewart77,

My sleds seats are up 4 inchs.....everyone that has sat on my sleds has gone wow!
I need a viper/sled to fit my set up to a viper properly.......I'm confident I have a solution that goes far beyond the wedge. Finished its look nice and I will say is hands down the best thing I have ever done for my sleds. I will be in quebec next week but will be around for the following weekend.... The viper seats I have looked at finish differently than what i have on my srx but I should be able to resolve that and provide a cover for the gap..... I will be putting things together...don't buy a boss seat until you have sat on my sleds......

I think that it was one off the best mods I ever did to my viper,Well the seat riser and the 3.5 Rox Pivot riser completely differt sled now and really comfortable.

yeah...i currently have a 2" block style riser and will more than likely move to a 3" or 3.5" now that I'm sitting a bit higher.

I had a 2" riser and went to a 3" riser and it fits me good, I'm 6',3" tall. I extended my brake line to stainless too.

I've sworn by these two mods on countless posts. makes the Viper a vastly different ride from stock. I never even gave my wife a chance to ride her S stock. Had bar and seat riser on it as soon as I could. It really does make that much difference over the sucky stock ergos. It will never be rider forward, but it's way better than rider on the ground. Her S has Ohlins in the rear as well so it's even more fun than my revalved 02'.

I feel your pain man. I'm putting mine through nursing school so she isn't working and the bucks are a little tight. I'm just damn glad to have two great "old" Vipers. 4 stroke maybe someday, but these Vipers have to die first! (That could take forever)

I have been considering the seat riser idea. Can i get a recomondation on which to purchase or how to make one? Thanks bp

Dave thanks for adding my link.

bplm26 email me with any questions, I wished I would have made the riser years ago. The riser combined with the Pioneer re-valve shocks on my 03 Viper made it like a new sled.

Viper Seat Riser

I'm just going to Chime in here quickly and say that I put the Boss Highrise flattop on my 03 Viper ER at the beginning of this season (along with 2 1/4 in rise to the handlebars) and it's been the best $583 I've ever spent. HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!!

I am about 6'4 and i went with the rox adjustable bar risers at full extention i think aout 5 inches and put about 2 inches of padding on top of the factory seat and the re stiched the hump in tha back is now leval with the rest of the seat and i love it... No more knee pain!!! Best non preformance mod that I have ever done!!!
