Just trying to get a feel for how many of us '02 Viper owners have had their engine go to crap one them. Mine blew the crank seal and destroyed the crank and case. I bought mine brand new and serviced every year by a Yamaha dealer. All post season storage done. I was at about 7000 miles.

I dont have quite that many miles on mine, but so far so good.
How did the seal destroy the crank and case? Dont they usually run really bad before it gets that far when a seal goes? Which seal, PTO or Mag side?

Center cylinder gernaded at 2500 miles, dealer repaired under warranty and I sold it with 4500 on it last year. Fun sled but not a 4 stroke !!

5500 miles on my son's 2002...Bender triple, Opticool, RHE, V-Force/spacers. Clutch needs to be re-bushed, needs new bearings, shocks need to be rebuilt, and there's a coolant leak, but the engine's been absolutely rock solid.

over 8k miles on mine, never opened and never needed to :) only thing that has ever happened was a fluke pv cable snapped. not a stuck valve, just a fluke. been perfect all this time :) 03 and I am the only owner

Viper motor

Mine has 11,500 and runs good. I have put 1500 on myself. purchased last summer from a reliable yamaha rider. Upper rebuilt at around 9000 and maintenance done every year.

Had over 8000 on two different '02's. Never had any engine problems at all. Just a powervalve cable on one of them.

holic how's the attak been treating ya,getting some miles on her now???

Yes sir I love that thing. Have about 3,700 miles on it now, so that's over 2,000 already this year. Got the mono revalved and resprung this year because they way I ride that thing bottomed ALL THE TIME last year. It was always amazing in the stutters, but would bottom in the bigger stuff. Now with the revalve, it is still very good in the stutters but can take the bigger stuff now much easier, and the RA adjuster actually has some good adjustability to it now. Thing really rips too. Speedos read high on them, but saw 124 on the lake last weekend with a full tank of fuel, and stiff headwind, and about two inches of snow on the ice, which also adds drag. Burned the slides down to the aluminum last weekend because it got warm and a few clubs groomed, so that night when it got real cold they turned very icy and there wasn't much/any fresh snow on top. So now I got a pioneer wheel spacer kit coming and going to add a marginal set in front of the fronts. All i all, really love the thing, but may have to jump at an FXNytro XTX for next year!
