so here is where i stand
i have 8G0 cylinders with the 77 port job
- 8j0 heads
and 8k2 carbs (junk)
if i still plan to keep the stock pipes on could i use vm40 carbs off a 9700 blizzard or 40mm carbs off a 670 ski-doo?? withs the difference with the power jet im always hearing about?
The question is: what pipes are on it?

as far as i know the pipes are stock 1980 8k2 is there an area i can check on the pipes to see which model they are? was there any difference in the srx 440 pipes as the years changed? if so what are the differences?

I was asking because it has 77 porting. Thought maybe it had some good pipes on it. The '76,'78,'79, and '80 pipes look similar. You don't want those. Stock or race updated '77 pipes would be great! Otherwise, Aaen '77 silenced mod pipes would be best for what you want to do. Be sure to bead blast (not sand blast) those cylinders and do a hone job to see what you have for condition. The liners are rusted on top and it will clean some of the aluminum off the wall.

If you had an older 1976-1977 chassis, not necessarily an SRX440, what modern day engine would you like to throw in under the hood?
Would you take a 1998-2002 SRX700 engine and squeeze it under the hood of an SRX440 chassis? Would you try a big displacement twin , like 800cc from one of the other manufacturers and stuff it under the hood?
Would you still stay vintage enough that you preferred a free air engine instead of a liquid cooled? I've seen a few nice work of arts..I still like the free air sleds with the heads sticking out of the top of the hood, although the liquid cooled are the big horsepower makers.

Tough question. Not sure I could answer it. For ultimate perf sleeper I would probably go to Glenn Hall for a big twin. For impressive to look at (and extremely fast) and still be vintage, I would put my 4 cylinder 800 SRX motor in. Some guy has a 4 cylinder GPX motor in one that looks awesome too!

anyone kow where i can get a set of 1.0mm oversized rings and pistons for my sled at an afforadble price?
