Hi Everyone,
I was just reading Cougar1985's post about re-jetting to get better performance at mid range. I have the same sled (1994 VMX600) totally stock, and i'm having similar spark-plug results. I was sure that my problem was due to a problematic primary but since the re-build it's still lacking in the mid-range department and the plugs are still dark and oily.
What is the concensus on going to the next size smaller main jet? Will I blow her up.....or will she run like a top?

Thanks in advance

First things first:

You need to determine at what range you are running rich. Low range, mid range, or top end. Do to this you will have to do some plug reads. Run the sled at the low range 0-25mph for about a mile. Hit the kill switch, pull the plugs and see what they look like. Do this for all ranges and go from there, you should get different readings from the different ranges.

My guess is that you are running rich in the mid range, these 94-95 Vmax's seemed to be really rich in the mid range and dropping the needle a clip position usually cleans it right up.

SO WHAT is the best position for the needle...also, can anyone tell me the jets for the 94v-max 600...thanks!

sounds like your running rich in mid, drop your needles 1 cip and try,
stock main is 156.3,,plenty fat

quote from Cougar

"moved the needle to the number 1 position and dialed the air screw out to 1 1/2"

Hi guys, I was having the same problem. Had problems with my mid range on my 96 vmax 600XT. I did a plug check at 6000 rpms and the plugs were black and had a little oil on them. I dropped the needle from 2 to 1.5 (thanks daman) and now the plugs are light brown and I am also getting better gas mileage. Daman I have not been able to try my sled out since I cleaned the tank, fuel pump and replaced the filter. I was hoping to get out this weekend but we got about 2" of rain after 4" of snow. I just registered my sleds in NH and hope to have my stickers by next week. Iam hoping I can ride in mass this Saturday to try out the sled. Thanks for all the help.
